The background might have been hell to do but you succeeded beautifully. My only crit is the bird's wings, although they look fantastic I don't think a real bird's wings look that way. But what do I know

Now that you answered my question, maybe you don't mind me asking some more Why do you study to become a teacher in language when you obviously love drawing that much?

Witchlord: I know the wings look a little... odd... but I had no reference picture to work with, and I thought "ah, what the hey... it's not a REAL bird anyway" and just worked with the flow of my imagination.

As to the teacher bit... well... suffice to say I'm a real idiot But it's good to have an education to drop back on if I can't get a job as an artist, you know?

Yes I do know. I have a degree of Master of Science in Computer Science myself. Had in mind of becoming a game programmer one day. (although I'm hopefully moving to Brazil soon )

What does a junior scientist at the Interactive Institute do? It sounds like a fun place to work.

This one I've actually been working on for a while. Or rather - I've been working on the background. It was HELL to do that one, I'm telling ya!



And since I was asked about what kind of job I have, before... well, I'm a junior scientist at a place called Interactive Institute. That, and I'm working with graphics for a computer thingie on my university. So yes, my job is slightly connected to art... but not in the way I might have dreamed of

Heh, that, and I'm studying to become a teacher, too. English and Swedish.

Enalya I really like your girl pic very cool indeed. I think the bird pic has some problem.

1: I would use a little more dynamic lighting it is far to flush with the background. Try using some old fashioned liquedesque glows and FX to livin that magic bird up. I think I should just be repainting this and showing you but...no time ...

2: I think the little circle things coming of the back as effects would be cool if they where not all the same size ..try verying them and giving them glows a trails..it will look cool !

Overall very nice pic though and I like your work a lot so far. Keep posting !!!

That goes for your bird aswell.. I think it's all very, very well done.

The girl pic did not come out that good, meesa think.. Sorry guys, I have to disagree with you... There are some errors on your anatomy. Also the lightning is a bit dull, sorry. Maybe you should focus on some parts, and leave other parts out? Imagine the street lights coming in from a window in a little apartment for instance? Your compostion is much more exciting on the first pic. I really like it. both with or without the bird. I think your palette is very delicate indeed!!!!

Enayla, can you answer me on this. I have seen, and several teachers has also pointed this out, that girls commonly has a much better skill at coloring and picking out palettes than boys? In all classes I've bee to, this has always been true. Girls are better at colors than boys. Why?

I don't agree with the colour thing either I'm afraid... I don't think girls are better with colours than guys are - and I think this forum proves just how many guys out there are completely brilliant with the use of colours...

I have to agree with them Enayla. You really are very very good. I always love looking at your work. That's why I (and lots of people with me) are waiting for you to put up your site. Especially because of the tutorials. I love the things you do. And I must say that they really inspire me alot. I couldn't believe it when I read that you don't do this for a living. That hurts! How come you can't get any work in this? Are you saying you're not good enough? Or is there nothing avaluable for you right now in this kind of work? Well question for you: How do you start making your drawings? Do you draw it entirely first? Or do you just create soms blobs and start painting over them until you have the desired effect? I'm working on neatly outlining drawings and then DRX colors and renders them. I would just like to know how you do this. because looking at your hair tutorial I noticed that you started working up from very basic shapes. So do you just paint guidelines first? Or do you actually use a detailed drawing and then color it? I hope I'm making myself clear about what I want to know.

NDR113: As an answer to your question... I have to say that it varies a lot. And a whole lot of it depends on what kind of image we're talking about, what mood I'm on, and what I feel like doing. I never do any actual "linework" as I've seen a lot of brilliant artists here do. I doodle, and the pictures grow from the doodles. Sometimes, I start out with colours, and slowly work my way towards details... sometimes I start with details, and spread out until it becomes an actual image.
I've got one small tutorial showing a bit of how I construct an image... but it's only one of many methods:

the background-wood looks incredible good. very sensitiv. only the back of the bird looks a little wrong (to me). the neck is a little to strong and the feathers do not look naturally...
the girl-pic is very great. its perfect, no complains from me but the blood is a little red uhhh its intended.

Thanks Enayla! You make it look so easy. This is a really big help. I guess what it all comes down to in the end is how much insight and experience you have. The rest is just a basic understanding of the tools you use in photoshop for instance. I noticed that you work faster and less elaborate than some people do. But the results are very pleasing nonetheless...to me anyway I will try to find my way of doing things. I do lineart mostly right now. I'm not that brilliant though. But I've just started so who knows? We'll see...
