OK,
being a 'stupid American' I have no idea what goes on in Sweden. All I knew them for was their blond gorgeous women. This forum however seems to point to the fact that there are also a lot of kickass Swedish artists.
Is Sweden a major metropolis for art in general? Or do they just send their friends more links to this forum? In history are there any so called 'masters' that had their origin in Sweden? If so post some links I am curious.
This may be a little off topic for the digital arts forum, but maybe not if there are some examples of past masters works posted here.

Scandanavia seems to be a very design-oriented area. A lot of great design work, digital art magazines, furniture, etc. comes from that part of the world. Not sure what it is about the place really... my wife lived there for a year, I'd really like to go there and see what all the differences in the culture are..

No problem kig, we have plenty of goth influence here in New Jersey. They aren't all bad, some are good artists. |

Old masters. Hmmm...
Carl Larsson, and The Skagen Painters pops up in my mind, from Sweden.
Edvard Munch was a Norwiegan, wasn't he?
I could do better. But I'm newly awake.
As MobeiusX said, Sweden (Scandinavia) have some of the world's best designers.
And over 50% (up to 75%? Not sure) have access to internet in Sweden.
If you have a mobile celluar phone it might have been designed in Scandinavia (Ericsson = Sweden, = Finland) etc etc. Sweden is the second country in the world (per Capita) when it comes to IT relates stuff (right after USA). So that might explain the big population of Swedes here.
And yeah, we got some pretty laides here too (not THAT many blondes tho). But not overly many as everyone(USA) seem to think (if you ask me)
faustgfx: I would disagree, but I haven't been to finland. So I don't know.
But right now it's just cold and rainy
We're having a shitty "winter" over here right now.

you just dashed my fantasy of a place with nothing but blond model type women in pony tails walking around with tight pink sweat bottoms and winter coats on and little ankle high snow boots...and...and...
...dammit to hell!
is made over there...damn I thought that was Japanese, what a dolt I am.
Anyone else have input on swedish masters and/or links?

Ahh yes, Zorn.
I was linked through to a gallery of his from frosts ongoing thread. That is one of the reasons I created this thread. The other of course is the level of detail and talent from the 'swedes' and netherlanders (is that a word? ) in general on this board is of a high calibre.
Was just curious if it was something in the water up there...

For a Scandinavian, this is a funny subject... Well, the best Scandinavian designers are in Finland and Sweden. No doubt about it. Cheers, neighbours. There are many good artists in Norway too, but it's Finland and Sweden which has the most sucessfull designs... Sweden with Volvo, Saab, Ericsson, Absolute Vodka. Finlands Alvar Aalto rules. Also I have seen great glass design from Finland, and we should mention for their great designs. I'm ashamed I don't know more about my neighbours, I think I need to go to the library this weekend.
As for Norway, I guess there is no point in good design when you just want to sell fish, gas and oil?

Sweden(can't speek for the rest of Scandinavia) has a population of 8,5milijon. And the states have many times more, but the reson there are so many good artist(music as arts) is the way we have our education system and organization. Like the "musikschool" that is free for everyone to learn a insturment when your young. And our traditions is another reason in mix whit the opend mind when it comes to art.
And when it comes to design, Sweds have a heritage that no other country have. And there is many good design schools in Sweden, expensive though.
And the babes?! The best in the world. I have traveled alot, there is no country that beats Sweden in having nice looking babes. It's not just they are good looking, they have brains and talent to. It is also know that Sweds are the best dressed ppl in the world.
Finnish girls are not near as good looking Swedish girl.
*my theory* Remeber...it is only a theory. Exept the babe thing.

...hmmm. wouldn't bring this up if I wasn't that proud dane that I am, eh-hehe... Looking through the history books you might stumple over the fact that both Norway and Sweden were once ruled under the danish king. I believe that at that time so much good danish culture and genes was mixed with the other scandinavian countries that all the good stuff we see from Sweden and Norway today originates from that time...
just something to think about...

YEAH.... Sweden rocks....
or not.....
The weather sucks.....
But i also think that sweden is good in designing....
to bad i'm not one of the really talented digital artists here in sweden...
But i will be..... i will take over the world with my art.... ha ha ha ha...
But i have never heard of a art school....
Does that excist in sweden?
I bought a Roland MC 303 yesterday ( if you don't now what it is, just search the internet).... Will conect it to the computer soon and make some music... will get really rich.... or not.... don't think i will, but it's really fun to do....
Music you make with the computer does belong to the digital art group.... or is it....
It is digital made and music is some sort of art.... so it should....
please let me know if it is..

Oh god. Bush.... I consider myself relatively liberal. So, naturally I didn't like Bush based on his conservative ideas. But then, what makes it awful for anyone is that he is a few bricks short of a load... he's a complete vacuous imbecile who got where he was simply because of nepotism.
And as for brunettes over blondes... heck yeah! I have light brown hair and I dye it dark purple on occassions.
Jussi, have I sent you my purple pick yet?
Also, I'd just like to say that my father is originally Finn. Does that mean I'll be a fantastical artist? Being a weird combo of Lebanese, Finnish, and American....
