[Funfetus]

I used my friend's new Aiptek tablet today. He paid $100 (and he's supposed to get back a $20 rebate) for the 6x8. I only used it for a few minutes, but there was no noticeable difference between the Aiptek, and my Wacom Intuos. These things could be an economical alternative to Wacom. Anyone know anything I don't?

i probably don't know anything you don't know, it's a great value except for the tablet's flimsiness sometimes; it doesn't seem as solid as other tablets. i think my parents paid around 60 bucks for my 4x5 (chistmas present). but nonetheless, yeah.. it works wonderfully, though still i hope to get a 6x8 wacom once i have an excess of cash (hehe funny)

I got myself a 4.5x6 tablet (serial version) that was sold at the german discounter "aldi" under
the name lifetec.
Its original name though is Aiptek HyperPen 6000 as I found out.
I never had any problems w/ it in photoshop or painter and that at a price of about 40$.

btw, a friend of mine bought the original usb version and he was very unhappy w/ it b/c of many crashes (desynchronisation,..).

I'm using a 4x5 Aiptek as well and personally I think it's a great li..er..cashsaver! Only about $50.
It's got its little problems sometimes just as Nova mentioned but it gets the job done.
I too would still love to get me a 'real Wacom' though.

I have a "Genius" one and I would rather use the mouse any day (I actually do) the table sux and it was around $20 in a garage sale (Evidently the previous owner agrees with me when I say it sux)

I bought an Aiptek a while ago and it didn't work too well in Photoshop IMO. It worked fine in that rinky dink program that came with it though. My Aiptek just plain stopped working altogether after a month or so.

That's only my experience with them though.

I like my Wacom. It's expensive but you tend to get what you pay for.

I agree with Flex on this one. Aiptek is a good choice for the beginning digital artist to get used to what a tablet does, etc. However, after you use it for a while, it does wear down, and then you finally see what you paid that $100 for. I believe mine also stopped working after a while, although that's what really got me into the digital art scene.

Beginner: Good. Moderate artist: Alright. Professional/hobbyist: Bad.

Well my tablet is the one that DRX uses. I can't get it to work on my computer. The USB won't work or something. I'm not that technical. But anyway it really doesn't work. But about the tablet wearing down...We are already experiencing problems with that. Sometimes when you put the pen against the tablet it won't make contact. It's just a piece of crap actually. I must agree that it was really helpfull in helping me decide that I want a Wacom instead of this one though. It made it quite clear that I need better and bigger stuff. It really is good for beginners. But you have to ask yourself... How much of a beginner are you really? I'm an almost absolute beginner. But it's not even good enough for me anymore. Partly because of the crappy quality. It really doesn't work well in Adobe PS indeed But also because I need a bigger version. This one is just too small and doesn't have as much detail and pressure lvl's as a Wacom does. I just can't wait to get one. I hate drawing with pencils and erasers! And then outlining it with a mouse! Oh yeah great! ...(mumbles some more incoherent comments about Aiptek that are not suitable for posting)
