that is sweet man.
me and ryan(zig) were just at blur last week, wednesday, i think. I believe a guy named aaron was showing us the place.
it was funny, ryan and i were like, "this stuff is cool, but i would love to see feng's verion of it"
heh, and now you work there.
we were there with a group from scad, an art school in GA.
so anyway, that is good to hear, they have a sweet atmosphere there.
Have fun there.

I'm 22 as well MilkMan...how'd you get a job all the way out in St. Louis? Doesn't seem like a mecca of gaming/art ('course the same could be said for Eugene...) You're working for Verant, if I remember right? How is it over there? |

Wow, thank you all for the great compliments! You guys are awesome!
Yes, Blur is a cool place to work. The environment is very creative, and everyone's really really good. The place just makes me wanna draw. Plus, it's just one block from the beach.....what more can you ask for? =)
Hey Pete and Ryan, i saw your group the other day at Blur!..sitting in the longe area watching videos (cute girls in your class btw). Did you guys see me? I was the short-hair asian guy talking w/ Neil right in front of you guys. Later i was upstairs in the mo-cap room. Wow, small world indeed...
Hey Flinthawk, i know that "game" you guys are working on. Give us a call if you need some concept art =) I hope you guys get something up by E3.
Yes Joachim, Blur does a lot of cool stuff. Everyday i find out something new...."wow, you guys did that too?"....very fun. I really like some of the ground control stuff myself.
I've mentioned this a couple of times, but the paper i use is called Confetti, made by Foxriver; it is brown. The image i posted has been de-saturated about 40%. And Micke, yup, i draw w/ a marker first...you can really see it on the brown paper. Look at the dude's righ arm; you can see the original arm position. This is the exactly technique doug chiang uses (as well as most ID artists). It's very fast and makes you drawing look "loose."
I've updated my website a bit and i'm gonna be adding a "how i work" section. Hopefully i'll get that up soon.
Thank you all again for the encouraging words. I'll try to post more often.
Okay, have to go do some thumbnails. See you guys tomorrow.

Ps. Battle Realms is looking great. There are many talented artist there who are way better than i am at 3D. I can't wait to see it myself at the next E3.

Damn, that close to the beach? I just get to see tree after endless tree out here, that and rain and hippies which don't make the best combination.
We've definitely got some stuff to show and it's blowing our publisher away already but I'm still not sure whether we'll be announced before or at E3, I guess we'll see. And I'd tell them to contact you for concept work but I'm trying to work my way into that job =)...which reminds me, I've got some work to do, especially if I ever want to be a decent concept artist, hehe.
Keep the drawings coming man!

I need to go out, by some of that paper and try... hehe. You're drawing skills are quite excellent. Some guys really overdo the white highlights - not you. Everything is beautiful done. Can you show us some step-by-step pictures of your work some day? |

Pretty cool my friend, and very stylish. That's funny how specific your style is. Totally difeerent from Doug Chiang I think.
Your character design is a little too diabloish though :P (private joke)

sweet jebus feng, i've always loved you style. congrats on the new job. seems like you've found a pretty sweet gig. i love my job big time, but the one thing mine lacks (other artists to shoot the poo with) yours seems to have in abundance.
now onto the drab bit... sorry to be such a bore but i have a couple of technical questions.
1) i went and picked up some samples of foxriver's confetti paper. i noticed it comes in a large variety of colors and in two different weights. i'm curious which combination you find most useful. seems that the three most reasonable colors are tan, sand, and brown and the two weights are 80lbs and 28lbs. which color and what weight would you suggest.
2)in a past post you mentioned that you block in your drawing using a #0 marker, though i think i've heard you also mention that you use a 10% prisma marker for you block-ins. what is a #0 marker? i'm not trying to nail you on a miss-type if that is what it is but rather trying to clarify. having no ID background i'm floundering around trying to find a foot hold.
3)looking at your line drawings such as the ones posted in the post referenced above my guess is that your not using the prisma for your inking, since your lines seem to fine. if i'm correct, what are you using for you inking? i've got a set of pigma microns that seem decent enough but i'd like to here what sizes and brands you find most useful in creating you fine lines.
4)can i be your bitch?

Not a bad sketch - I'm sure some kickass 3d artist over there can turn it into a 3d masterpiece.
Blur has attracted some of the better artists out there.
