I would like some critisism on this, I know it's not half as good as the other stuff you guys post here. I know you guys don't like newbies and quite frankly nobody does but I would appreciate some feedback.
About me:
I have never taken any kind of art class and all I know in photoshop I have learned it by myself. I am in college right now and I am a business major so this is something I love to do but in my spare time. I am hoping to take some art classes (3D design, 2D design, Figure drawing) next year, but until then I am learning by myself and with the help of people like you guys. Thanks.

Lucky guy, you got a newbie for your first critique...haha. Anyway I like the pic, but the background isn't detailed enough for it to be of main focus. Make your character larger so you can show off his detail. Also you might wanna do some experiments with ambient lighting rather just putting a shadow someplace. And speaking of shadows he needs some on his body to show where the light is and is not coming from.
And as a side note, you might wanna tone down the detail on your backgrounds (unless they are really intricate) until you get your level of drawing to where the 2D and 3D mesh a little better. Hope this if helpful

Yes, I know the background is not that good, it is just something I put together in Bryce in about 5 minutes because I'd rather have that than a plain background.
I appreciate the input (Specially on the lighting) a lot, this is the first time somebody mentions the lighting on this picture and I 100% agree with you there. |

Don't worry about being a newbie, everybody is at one point or another in his life.
I think I only can help with the composition of your picture because you will only be
able to produce better drawings through a lot of practice. You should try to give the image a unified look. The rendered background contrasts too much with the character. Furthermore there is not enough detail in the background which makes the picture look rather dull.
Look around on the forum for inspiration.

That's exactly what I have been doing, I still have the photoshop .psd file so I will just post the actual chracter with a plain background later on until, like you said, I make a better background for it.
This was made for a Final Fantasy message board were most people have 15" monitors and use 800x600 that's why it is so small.
This board is really cool. People here is very talented. |

Dud, it's too early for you to mix 2d and 3d =]
Work on both separately.. when you improve to a new level then try and see if your results better with 2d/3d

Nice tower. Nice char too. Photo-paint makes autoshadows. I perosnally like the background. But i don't understand the head of the character. Also the tower is like from another dimension. |

It's actually FanArt for a game a friend of mine made. In the game the wolf character builds the tower and the tower is able to teleport to different places. The tower is also located in a desert, hence the lack of more detail on the background. |

I know you are a newbe and didn't have any art classes but,
I think taht the background sdosn't fit the figue. The tower has demention and shadow but the figure dosn't. Try next time to put more detail in the figure. Maybe you need to buy some books on lighting and form. |
