yes mOO, that ZORN

Oh my, I almost get tears in my eyes while looking at those Zorn pics again. It has been a while since I last did that. For you who don't know, Zorn almost always only used 4 colors, Black, white, golden ochre and redwarm red). All the colors he got out of that palette was an illusion utilizing the phenomena that different colors in relation to each others can cause in our brain, through our eyes.

It also makes me remember how much I love to paint in traditional medias, especially oils. I guess that is one of the few disadvantages with digital, it steals away time from creating artworks in the traditional medias.

Frost, look him up, he is a great artist!

edit: I almost forgot, here is the painting I told you your sketch reminded me of

oh, forgot to say something to you frost. Great 7 min sketch. Looks quick in motion too It's always great to see paintings, when the basics are there, and that's that.

THe sketches. You've managed to give the girl a non supermodel look...-Don't you like doing babes Anyway, maybe the lines are a bit wobbly. I mean, build it up more with shapes, easier to get the feeling of volume the shapes get more solid look. Well, I don't know...that's how I try to sketch, but, everyone have different ways of starting out.

all in all, great work as usual.

Darn. I thought this "one-thread per person" was a good idea... but this is turning into a very sloppy and lengthy thread. Ermh, so I don't know what to do here...

Anyway, I made a mock-up image of John Mueller's (www.jmueller.com) 'Visor' poster for Quake 3 Arena... Immi/3DP (www.3dpalette.org) thought it would be funny, so, here it is. It would be nice to get some critiques on it (aside from his short right leg )

I first liked it a lot, but, just a day or two after, I find it already bites. (I can't wait for the day where I get values right, with proper contrast, anatomy, etc...)

Here it goes.

[edit] - slightly larger (and darker) version here.

yo frost, lol cool pic man, your painting style is smashing it nowadays!

To offer some crit on it,

His face excellent, nice touch with that cigar looks very defined and detailed, and is making mostly the bottom half of the pic looking like it needs more defining and detailing..

his head looks a bit too big for his body, and his forearm too short but (then again you may of wanted to give him a dwarfish look.)

Maybe could of used some more shadow cast from his body below him, like on the steps.

Also the angle and shape of the gun(it is a gun, right??), looks very similar to his legs, making it look abit stagnant. I think if you made the gun more straight down and gave it some more design to the shape might of looked better.

Also a bag full of body parts woulda been cool but maybe thats just me =)x)

hope any of this helps bro
Cheers!

I don't feel to safe about writing santa for pressies any more....he looks a tad nastier than i'd imagined.

Very nice...i like the realistic skin tones you've used, adds to the image of santa - fat white guy in need of some sun.
Looks like he's posing for a photo shoot "Do i look hard?"

I asume thats his hair blowing out behind, its a little to smokey looking. The technique you used for the wispy hair is great, I'm trying to imagine exactly how you did it for future reference.

Frost!!! That's a great piece!
I wondered why you did'nt post it here at Sijun (saw it on 3d-palette).
The face and hair/beard looks awesome and i really like the technique you've used. The skies looks cool too.
There is one thing that i think could be improved and that is the boots. The Quake characters are famous for having big boots.
Maybe they could be bigger?
Overall it's a great piece!
Too bad i don't have the chance to meet with you in the states Maybe some other time..
Keep it up!
