Hey guys,

Please use this thread to post your entries for this competition only. This contest ends at 11:59PM EST on JANUARY 30TH, 2001. If you want to post a comment or suggestion please use this thread:

http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/007643.html

Let's start with the rules:

1. Working from a scanned in sketch is ok as long as the image is painted or colored digitally.

2. No photo manipulation.

3. Minumum resolution of 800x600. (1024x768 recommended)

4. Jpeg format.

5. Limit two entries per person (please add additional entries to your original post.)

In addition, by entering, you agree to the following to conditions:

1. I may display your work at my site in our galleries.

2. You agree to let Right Hemisphere make one post competition mailing. (Hey... gotta get the prize somehow!)

To submit an image just post it here to this thread... please do not 'reserve' space... that is annoying.

*********************************
The theme to this contest is to create a visual interpretation of the lyrics to the following song:

'The Ballad Of Curtis Loew' by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Here are the lyrics:

Well, I used to wake the mornin' before the rooster crowed,
Searchin' for soda bottles to get myself some dough.
Run 'em down to the corner, down to the country store,
Cash 'em in, and give my money to a man named Curtis Loew.

Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair,
When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care,
He used to own an old Dobro, used to play it 'cross his knee
I give old Curt my money, he play all day for me.

Play me a song, Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew,
Well, I got your drinkin' money, tune up your Do-bro.
People said he was useless, them people all were fools,
Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues

He looked to be sixty, and maybe I was ten,
Mama used to whip me, but I'd go see him again.
I clap my hands, stomp my feets, try to stay in time,
He'd play a song or two, then take another drink of wine.

Play me a song, Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew,
Well, I got your drinkin' money, tune up your Do-bro.
People said he was useless, them people all were fools,
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues

On the day old Curtis died, nobody came and prayed.
Ol' preacher said some words, and they chunked him in the grave.
Well, he lived a lifetime, playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose.

Play me a song, Curtis Loew, hey, Curtis Loew,
I wish that you was here so everyone would know
People said he was useless, them people all were fools,
'Cause, Curtis, you're the finest picker to ever play the blues.

This contest will be judged by myself and an artist I will designate. This artist will not be a member or visitor of this forum. This contest will end on January 30th, 2001 at 11:59PM EST. Let's get it on!

That song was so beautiful. That was sooo beautiful the digital paint just flowed. For some the connection between the image and song may be hard to see. But when he say "I wish that you was here so everyone would know" it made me think of blue tights and a yellow "J".
