A couple days ago I posted some of the crap I did from line sketches. So, I've taken some of your advice, and here's my first block-color only painting. Problem is, now that I have my basic shapes and lighting, I have no idea what to do. What do you do to smoothen things out, etc?

At this point I would go back and try to give it some fine detail. like use a small brush to give her face detail and arms and her dress especially. I think it looks really good so far.

You might want to try giving the woman a lot of detail and maybe some stronger contrast or light, and then leaving the background loose in certain areas, that way the image can 'breathe' a little. just a suggestion, but i think it might look good. great job, btw!
