I had some time yesterday. This is the result:
It's a rather quick one and it's very similar to the last picture. I did it like this because I wanted to see how the pic changes (comparing to the last one) by adding some important and dropping some unimportant details.
I'm quite happy with this pic although I know that there are (again) some big mistakes- does anybody know how to draw a glas of beer? I think it needs more contrast but I don't get it (did't find any reference).
Please tell me what you think.
Oh i nearly forgot to say that this one is no self-portrait! ;-)

Nice picture Nil900, I really like how the front character is the center of what your supposed to be looking at (with all the detail put on him). You've done a pretty good job with the glass, but you might want to try and make it more transelucent (lichtdurchlssig?), so it looks more like glass, also add reflections. Nice job on the lighting too.

Thank you for your reply Bradford. You are right the glas has to be more transelucent and the reflections are missing. I tried to add reflections but it didn't work yesterday. I probably have to find a reference for that to get it looking right. I'll give it another try this evening.
Anybody else? |

I really like it, the colors and the mood is very good, it looks like a bit like Bilal's style.
My only crit maybe would be about the backgroun, i really like the way it is blurred and wihtout details, but i think maybe some brush strokes are too "obvious" espcially on the top of the picture, maybe you should try to blur them a little ... but im not sure and maybe they looks exactly like you want
and for the beer you can tweak it a little like bradford says, but dont make it looks too shiny, it would kill the (excellent) dark mood of your pic.
very good work
edit : i just noticed that his right eye seems a bit weird, a little cross-eyed, and maybe a bit blurred, like if the right eye was ill or with some kind if sickness ... Try to contrast it a little, and adjust its direction and it will great

I really like the mood!!! I like your style too. The glass looks a bit to bright and not translucent enough.....other than that, it looks great!!
I have only posted twice now and I have also been looking through past message and I can't say enough about the talent on this board. You guys are amazing!! I am starting to get scared about posting my own images!

Thank you for the replies.
Mime you are right I should rework the top of the background. The eyes are very different and I should change one. But last evening (one day after painting this one) I took a close look at this picture and noticed that the whole face seems twisted to me. The mouth and the nose do not have the same angle (direction)-am I right?!
I think I'll keep it in mind for my next face.
funkylizard: Thank you! I just took a look at a post of you I did't recognize before-great lineart one of the best I've seen around here. POST MORE OF THAT. |

it's really nice nil ... you could try smothening the background with photoshop or something (blur it a bit to make it more realistic) try making something like out of focus ... (blur, white spots ... somehing like that) .. good work

[s]layer: I thought about bluring the backgroud with a filter but that would be someting like cheating or do all of you use these things?
I like it better to do the "blur" by hand. Anyway you are right the background needs some work. |

Maybe the mouth and the nose arent totally aligned, but it really didnt shocked me, onlt the eye caught my attention, irregularities in facial features can add personality to the characters too i think, and to this guy i think it looks good, making him looking strange, dark.
For the background it doesnt need at all to be more detailled, i think the people in the bottom of the BG are great, its only the brushstroke that are a bit too sketchy, you can refine them manually or use the blur / smudge tool and soften them |

I thought about the direction of the nose and the mouth mime. I don't think that there are people with parts facing in different directions in their face but I'm not sure. Maybe it really looks better like it is now (not considering the eyes). Perhaps I'll try to change the mouth just to see the difference. But in the next two days I won't have time. |
