Hello. I'm a beginning digital artist, and I hope to do some painting with a tablet, other that my usual stuff like this. Anyway, I Don't know what size tablet I need. I was thinking a 6x8, but I don't have too much cash at the moment. So what are the disadvantages of a smaller tablet? And what would you recommend for a beginning digital painter like myself? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yea, hmm the image you pointed to seemed more like graphic arts, which is less traditional than what most of the ppl here do, but both require a degree of creativity

As for the tablet, I would start out with a cheap one that doesn't really have a lot of features but get the job done. try to find a cheap 6x8 inch tablet. when you work on lets say a 4x6 or smaller, everything getts cluttered and it gets a lot harder to detail. I've seen the cheaper tablets from $60 - 200, you can find em anywhere you can find an expensive tablet!

Thanks for the info, DryFire. I'm living in Canada, so things are much more expensive here than in the U.S. The only one I can find with a semi-reasonable price is either this:

A Wacom Intous 4x5 Serial Tablet for PC w/ Intuos Pen & Painter Classic -- $244.95


or this:

Wacom Graphire Cordless Tablet (also 4x5) -- $149.99

I may be able to find a cheap 6x8 somewhere else if I look, but out of the two above, which would you recommend? Thanks again.

Lol. Probably Wacom has to pay some money to Dhabih and Spooge for their Wacom advertising

Hey Tron, if you can, check CDW.com for USB compatible Wacom Intuos products. Much cheaper. The Graphire is as low as $80.00 US funds there.

not that anyone cares, I bought a 12x12 inch tablet, not a wacom but gets the job done. It's a Creation Station pro. Not sure where the site is but I got mine (12x12) for around $250. Which is pretty cheap compared to the wacoms. It doesn't have the tilt feature or the eraser feature but it has worked fine for me.

I agree, I recommend a 6x8. A 4x5 is fine for an enthusiast, but you really need more room if you're going to use it a lot.

anyways, I need to chime in here...4x5 is perfect for a beginner imo. It's not too expensive, and if its not your thing, then you havent wasted too much money. I got my Graphire for about 87.5$ Try looking around more. And it is not too small, you get used to it..you might not get the same precision as the 6x8 one, but its ok. Doesnt take up too much space either.

And you get a worthless cordless mouse with it
