hey all, go easy on me as I'm new to this stuff here... but I found a sketch that VortX made sometime ago and there where a lot of colored versions by various authors, and since I liked that sketch a lot I tried to add color to it myself... this is the first time I did something like that so I would like to hear your critism on it. If I could draw so good I could make my own sketches... hehe but until now I think I have to colorize others.

any feedback welcome...

Nice man, i saw the thread that yer talking about, a lot of good stuff.. Hmm i would work around her midsection a bit more though, like you've got a big bump under her belly button, just lower it a bit - she's slender, not bulky...

Looks pretty good. From that last comment though I just wanted to let you know coloring really is not going to improve your drawing ability as much as drawing will. Trust me on this, so if you want to get better at drawing I suggest you concentrate on that.

@Dryfire... ya I see what you mean I will try to do that better next time.
@Chapel... the problem are not really my drawing skillz, I can draw stuff like cars, computers and all mechanic stuff, but when I try drawing a complete human body I fail all the time and I also can't draw in that k00l anime style, you guys know where I can find any tutorials focusing on that?

Just observe. Look at the human body and find out how it works. Find out why it moves the way it does. Learn the anatomy as best you can. Even if you're going to want to focus on anime, you're going to need to start with the basics of the human body. Someone on this forum said a really good quote not too long ago... Something like, even though you're exaggerating the anatomy, the anatomy is still there. Just start from the basics and when you're comfortable with that, work your way up to whatever else you're interested in.

yeah... I think I'll keep trying that, at least I can draw human heads now I just have to learn the body.

Oh and I made some fixes to my first attempt... I changed the color sheme to red, added some blood onto the sword and I think I fixed what Dryfire talked about.

[edit] forgot the picture... [edit2] added one more pic... [edit 3] does this stop? New Pic!

woo... just can't stop recoloring it

made a kind of military color sheme

Well I agree. Just learn how to draw first. I am having problems with drawing humans and other organic stuff also. And stuff like cloth. But what I'm planning on doing is just attend a drawing class. They will teach you what you need to know about anatomy and stuff. And basic drawing skills that you need in order to develop yourself. After that it's all practise and more practise. Well...Not that I'm that great already. But I think that's the way you should go at it. Just thought I'd mention it. I have to say you are very talented in coloring already. Especially if this is your first time. Keep it up!

tnx for the feedback yet but to give you some info about me, this is not my first try on graphics but my first try at coloring sketches. I usually do weapon skins for game-models I make myself, too so I'm kinda familiar with graphics.

I can sympathize with you on the drawing end. Infinity, I'm in the same exact position. I do pretty well colorizing but my figure drawing is raw. I've mostly worked in cad systems and professionally as a programmer so I rarely get to use any art skills.

I also have been trying to find some good anime style guides and I've only been able to find one that is any good on-line http://www.polykarbon.com/ He has a real good set of tutorials and links to books (both in english and japanese). The gallery of his work is awesome.

you can get VortX's base sketch here

and here are the basic steps how I made it.
1.) just the colors
2.) added shading
3.) added lights
4.) background and shadow

hope it helps you a bit.

Hey man thanks

one question , did you use airbrush for the colloring and did you use dodge and burn for shadows and highlights ?

I made all shadows and highlights with airbrush for the lights I used color burn and for the shadows multiply and soft light.
my brush sizes range from the smallest up to 100 it depends on "how soft" it should be the more sharp I want it the smaller is the airbrush I choose.

... just thought I'm gonna show you another one of VortX's sketches I'm coloring. It's still work in progress.

Should I finish it?

typhon, keep goin, i liek the detial you put into the hair!
Infinity, good job, the tummy's look much better now, and the colors you use are nice too, keep drawing, and sketch a lot to improve yer skillZ, even if its copying other things, or drawing over like pictures and such, the better you are with yer hands, the better you are at drawing ... :-) (only my wicked mind)
