Had a month break from drawing babes and swords, in favor of gaming(like Shenmue)Well, and tonight I just sketched up something different, my first african chick. Her name is Coco, and has a bush;-)
There are as usual some flaws here and there, since I`ve just completed it, and had not had time away from it yet, so expect some updates.

cool pic. I like the bright background and the way the edges of the foreground 'fade' into it.

The backgrounds too white.... and if the sun was coming from there. why is the back of the figure kind outline in black. Hehe...anyway I like it! The white contrasts nicely with the "afrobush. " a little too much i think But great pic.. like your attention to "details" |

Cool! Good to see more of your work. I really like the composition on this one - nice and simple, but a great pose with a lot of character. I can't wait to see the updates!

Yagh! Those "Painter" brushes give me motion blur... or they give the picture motion blur; one or the other.
Awesome pose and wow... you gave her realistic African queen hips! She is a machine. |

Hey veb, i really like your works
since i dropped by and took a look at yours
could you take a look at my "intheworks"
image...the post says 'sleek hair woman'
i'm just asking, cause nobody has looked and i always take the time to check out your works.
By the way, maybe you could do more of a african sunset in the background, and orangy clouds in your new image...i'm not sure if its done or not...but just an idea
i think it'd be cool
nice painterly styles...im trying to get that goin on with my new works

Inspired by Frazetta? I like his technics also, hes on of the best fantasy artist. Its your emagination that created the picture, and its allright to use a painting technic to get ones ideas down on the paper, bloody good, man!
Crit point: the arms look too short, the arrow in her hand looks to big compared to the other arrows on her back, maybe not the lenght of it, but certainly the feathers

excellent Veb! Yes there are some small anatomical flaws, but you constantly amaze me the rough yet polished painting style. Very inspireing.
Looking forward to see some updates on this one...

I love the concept and the rendering is excellent. As a black man I would suggest this for your painting.
1) Black women have naturally curly hair, She looks either ethiopian or mixed? If so reinforce that. Maybe green eyes if she is mixed, or some kind of ethiopian artifact. Some Ethiopians have less curly hair. But beads, jewelry, or animal skins would really help either way.
Bush Africans have very curly/nappy hair(pubic hair too ). Curly(nappy) hair is one of our ethnic traits. Braids, locks, or afro hair texture would help reinforce her ethnicity. Corn braids and locks are hot right now in our culture. Uncombed short afros are hot too.
2) her anatomy is excellent but un-african. Look at strong African women they have a rounded physique. The forms are more cylindrical because the skin is thicker and has a higher percentage of body fat. Plus African life envolves more manual labor which develops strong, smooth muscles very different than muscles you get from weight training. Basically, I would make her a little more round, less cut.
3) Whats up with her skin? She looks a little ashy? Make her skin look a little richer more moisturized! Also darken up her nipples a little bit more it will make it a little more sexier.
4) Her bow and arrow need some color, Black folks love colorful stuff. Give her some color so she can coordinate her outfit! Africans like to match too!
Good job! If you need reference I have a small collection of scans from national geographic and Black Hair magazine.

Hmmm...... looks good. While I like my pics a bit more realistical in the ways that probably no hunter ran around totally naked like that in the last few centuries, I admire the skill that is apparent here.
The only thing that looks strange in my opinion is her right leg, which seems too long, looks like a male leg and has a strange color (where's that blue highlight coming from ?). Oh yeah and her breasts should hang a bit.
But apart from that, great work.

First of all... your painting skills are amazing! This is good stuff. Strong, unique pose, nice bow, and the girl is oozing with character...
But onto the crits
I agree with low_stress about the skin... I don't think I would have thought she was black unless you said so actually, hehe.
It's easy to tell she's not white... but she's not African looking. I think making her skin color more rich will REALLY help. Maybe giving her a little more cheek? Round out the face just a tad? The very slender, angular face doesn't seem to flow well with the heavy muscular body. I think the current face is WONDERFUL, this is just one way I think it can be improved upon
And I'm not sure if it's just the strap around her neck that's throwing me off, but her oobies look a little weird. They don't look natural, instead they look more like two giant orbs adhered to her body. Since she's prancing around nekkid and has oobies that big, gravity is gonna take into effect and they won't be thrust together in that way. I think just showing that there is some space between the two of them will really help. I just can't picture a badass archer girl like her with silicon in her chest

Haha I couldn't have said it better! Yeah fix the breasts, they don't seem like there attached, and since you seem to be going for that kinda prehistoric hunter look I don't think there supposed to have that silicon perkiness. Anyways love the rendering and attitude of her. |

Coco's quite a babe...I agree with low_stress' points about getting her to look a little more 'afro' and about her boob-job. Nevertheless, this is pretty cool

Beautiful painting, as always
To make her look more african you should make her nose wider. Africans have wide flat noses.
Also the breasts bugs me. For such large breasts to be that high up she would need a push up bra. You should lower them. Apply some gravity to them as well, they look like a couple of coconuts right now

Vebjorn: Excellent painting. Very much in the Frazetta style however I'm starting to see some things that are distinctly yours. Keep up the great work. I always say, when you've got one thing down (Frazetta in your case) then add a totally new ingredient to spice things up (Perhaps start using extensive photo reference or maybe even (gasp:-)African Art or Photography. Picasso used it to great effect. I'd suggest you get these books: Last of the Nuba, Africa Adorned etc.
Low-Stress: Another brother here, I concur 100% Paintings of Black people have traditionally been handled very similar to Film. Mostly bad lighting, inaccurate anatomical features mixed with poor color coordination:-) Good Point.
