Watch out! There's someone right behind you!

In the spirit of the battlescene pic, I tried something similar out, and after numerous croppings from a big crowd of people to these two and finally that cut half I got something I was satisfied with.

Well, after wasting a lot of virtual paint & canvas and a whole friggin day, I'd appreciate any feedback you might have :)

Good, I like the use of light and dark. The only critical things I would say are that the silhouetted foreground character doesn't seem to go with the rest of the scene, and that the armored character's head seems a little large, which makes him look diminutive.

I'd be interested to see the parts you cut out.

Put some more work into the background and detail to the knights. Helmet's a bit smaller as well, but maybe should be even more so.

Here's a step: http://members.surfeu.fi/pveik/turhatjpgt/knights.jpg

Nice job gecko. Good to see that you're continuing with defining form with strong light source. Well, the cropping is a tad awkward. Chopping the guy off at the breastplate and having him turned in an awkward position really detracts from the overall composition. I'd say your "progress" piece had a much stronger composition, since the offset was not as great. In my opinion, it would look 10 times better without the bottom right figure (in the current composition); either that or try to lay it out like your progress piece.

Ok, thanks for the comments, I tried out the stuff you said, except for the lack of color which I like. Yes, the hands are supposed to not be totally armored.
And the guy in the foreground had to go. Instead, the remaining knight got some more detail all over. And yes, the lighting doesn't quite work. But at least I like the hand holding the sword.

looking mighty fine there! but you should do one of these in non monochromatic scale too... you define the form very well with great lighting but i'm sure it would work even better if there would be some color variation.
