Well, obviously I am new.. and I want some critiques (I am a horrible speller).
This seems to be one of my better drawings.. simple yet complex, yet me what ya think.

heh. I laughed when I figured out what was going on.
Her neck looks a bit too long. That's the only thing that sticks out for me. I think it would look good refined more--maybe colored.

Apart from what the others said, I think it looks pretty nice and the way you have drawn it conveys its message well. The face looks cool too, I sense a manga/anime influence?

HRmm..... guess everyone has different opinions on this. I think it's a great piece. Kind of sad and expressing your feelings? The girl's completely isolated and lonely and everyone calls her ugly right? So she draws in some friends with the marker in her hand and makes em love the girl? Well..tell me if i'm right. Think it conveys a lot of emotion. REally like the piece. But would you care to explain why the charachters aren't on the piece of paper taped up? |

Cool pic. I like it. Nice website by the way. You have a cute profile... like an anime girl. When I say "profile" I mean your appearance from the side.
Welcome to the board. By the way, you didn't mention Dave & Buster's as a cool place... what's up with that? |

Evil: I drew the picture because of my enviroment at the time. I was in Highschool, and I felt very very cold and alone. People offten claimed to be my friends and say that they "knew" me. Another thing that was offten said was "Oh you're so pretty", which made me feel even more distant from the people I was a round on a daily basis. I felt closer to my drawings then I did real people. It was supposed to be something completely different, but you should draw what you feel.. it seems to come out better when you do. So I did.
The drawing isn't entirly of me. It has three or four meanings. The paper represents conforming... and reality..everything we know in a nice little box. She drew off the paper.. making it seem odd and unfamilier.. more like a child. Also by drawing off the paper, she gave her drawings "life". In the picture you can't really tell wether the stick figures are drawn on her or if they have come to life... Its ment to be that way.
The picture could also be funny.. like the cheerleader mentality ( no offence to cheerleaders, I've known some really nice ones) The idea that you're friends arn't real, superficial aspect.
Overall... the girl *is* supposed to be pretty, just not through everyone elses eyes. She feels very alone and cold, so she creates people to surround her. I hope I cleared that up some.. I am glad you liked it Evil ;]. (You were right in a way... I've just stopped viewing it as I drew it... there are so many ways it can be taken, and I want to see all of them)

Jason: Manga/anime = while I love manga and anime.. It really wasn't an influence. Thats just sort of how my art has settled for now.. I keep trying different tehniques, and I just really liek that one.

You should read the comic book Kabuki. You would probably like it from the way you describe your picture. Every page is a story within itself and David Mack (the artist/writer) uses mixed media. |

I love the structure of the eyes. They remind me of a style I've seen before, but when I think of it, I just visualize the eyes micke and Francis draw (which are heavy in style).
This picture makes me want to buy "American McGee's Alice" even more so... |

Nice drawing, like the message you're sending. I kind of got that cheerleader feel about the piece as well but also got some slightly self-concious feelings with it. Reminds me of what I feel when people've told me that I do good artwork...it sometimes just doesn't feel right or it feels fake, kinda hard to describe. It's like I find it hard to take a compliment and maybe that's what this piece says to me...because the girl in the image is pretty but it seems she doesn't really feel pretty. I wish friends would tell me I'm good looking but a)most of my friends are guys and guys just don't do that (nor do I want them too) and b)I know they'd be lying =)
Anyway, I like your style...very simple but elegant, some anime overtones but without the overly large eyes. Those eyes look kinda goofy 'cuz they're slightly crossed it seems (hence the cheerleader feel to it, heh)but they're still very cute. Do you plan on making any full color images?

P.S. I have to agree with your 'friends' |

I like your drawing, its nicely done and the neck only looks long after you start analyzing the drawing. It kinda made me feel real sorry for you, and i dont usually feel sorry for anyone. Anyhow i hope you dont feel alone to often. |

Ivey, I love this piece...I think it rocks. You take the time to put symbolism and hidden meanings in your art...That's something I find is a rarity with art lately...Keep up the good work.

so true, Vis, so true
I didn't do it at first but actually doing pieces based on thoughts and feelings is a lotta fun, well, depending on the feeling it could be therapudic in a way. Anyway, it's a refreshing departure from the viking dwarves with hefty axes and soiled and bloodied, war-torn warriors I usually depict in drawings.

Blitz: I suppose red does look sort of stoned.. never noticed before ;p
Visigoth: I try to give credit where credit is due.. if I drawing is inspired by lonliness, I will attempt to do that feeling justice. Any picture can look good, but not just any picture can make you feel the emotion the charactors feel (Thats what I love about Johnny the homicidle maniac). If I could get up the guts.. I'd post more.. the pictures I do have up are the ones I concider to be the best... there are other's I'd love to show, but I am sort of ashamed of them. I used to burn my drawing books. Thought I am ever so glad to see you liked this one. ;]
Dark: *smile* thank you. ;]
