Ooh. How do you get those values, you bastard?!? Great image, Spooge.
I know someone who knows you from Dreamworks; he described your method of building up from a photo. Very interesting to hear someone actually describe it. He also said you were eight feet tall and paint like this with your feet. Hmmf. Crazy. But so crazy it must be true! |

Very errie. it seems asthough he's a etheral captian guarding his treasures or pondering for eternity.
Imagine it as complete silence except for slight gusts of wind blowing through every now and again.....errie. |

Solitaire, I like historical stuff in general. This looks revolutionary war to me, but the hat is colonial and the coat is British. I did this because I liked the combo of the shapes, not accurate, but why let reality get in the way of art? There are only a few people who would know this and have the piece destroyed in their eyes because of the inaccuracy, so I think it is a good choice to toy with history.
I am happy that people are speculating about what is going on here. That is what I had in mind, and what made me keep on going with it. I never thought of some of the interpretations that some of you have, that is one of the cool things about this board. My own interpretation was homecoming, but that is where my mind was at the time. So evil toylet, it can be whatever you want it to be.
Optic illusion, I started this one with a simple line drawing of the figure in Photoshop, with no idea that I would ever even put clothes on the guy. It evolved from there. I am in the process of learning everything I can about the figure, from the skeleton out. There is no other way if you want to do the best work. My figure education has been abysmal. I know the basics, landmarks, etc, and compared to other illustrators I am OK, but not for where i want to go. if you are a professional illustrator, consider making the commitment to learn anatomy well. If you dont, you will always be at a disadvantage. And if you think putting it off is Ok, think again. You have to learn it sooner or later, it will do much more good sooner.
I am at the humerus and moving toward the inner and outer condoyles. The triceps works in opposition to the bicep and is attached here and here... Yes, learn it so you KNOW it.
Just my opinion.
Alias moze, Who is this person at Dreamworks? I dont remember this.

Welcome back
I recently bought me a big Book with Mucha's
work. What i admire about him is the way he uses the colours and values, in many ways simillar to your work. I remember the fat guy that stands before a hologram-globe, very nice.
Just wanted to show you these:
Both of you is a very big inspiration at the moment.
Great job! The light behind the guy adds a
nice mood to the picture and exellent colours as usual.
I hope we'll see more of your work soon..

Spooge, it's a bg painter named Robert Lowden. I made up the part about you being eight feet tall and the painting with your feet. But he said you were a very nice and generous guy when it came to helping out. And that you're a great painter. |
