My friends reminded me that I always draw perfect people... so I tried not to. That is, I gave a shot at drawing someone far less than perfect...
Did I succeed? This isn't someone pretty, right?

I dunno Enayla, looks fairly pretty-boyish to me.
hes gotta have scars and warts and hair that doesnt belong... try making him slouch and sneer a bit.
anyway thats my two cents

Hey Enayla, I'm curious... when you do your hair is it just a soft-edged brush with a fade on it? And do you use a tablet?
The hair you do always comes out so nice

Jezebel - you're right about the soft edged brush. I use that. And a lot of different hues, layer upon layer upon layer (though usually, I keep it in /one/ layer in photoshop. What I meant was that I brush over my colours with new colours time and time again until I get the right look)... I do not use "fade" however . Never had any use for it. If I want to soften the edges, I make good use of my favourite tool - "smudge"...

Ugly? hmmm...well a chimpanze mother would probably say that her kid is the cutest thing there is
well, you may want to play around with the dozens of features that a human cranium can take shape of. The combinations pretty much never ending. The cheek and eye brow area can have a pretty big effect, though small changes. That without having the character looking like a drug addict.

Hey, I think "it" is ugly enough...at least my feeling is I shouldn't trust on it if it was alive. The colour of the skin reminds me of evil/dead/disease/wax... |

Looks perfect
But seriously, considering that elfs are much more attractive that humans, that should be and ugly sob by their standards! |

Heya Enayla,
This is a nice pic but if you're going for ugly I don't think you've quite gotten it here. You don't need to go so far as adding grotesque scars if you don't want to, but you tend to draw skin and hair very soft and beautiful. You might wanna try making his hair a little matted or dirty looking, I feel like I could just snuggle up to his head the way it is right now
And despite the fact that his skin is discolored and all-around sorta icky looking, he still has very perfect facial features. Maybe give him a lumpy nose or a slightly deformed eye. Right now I have a feeling if you were to convert all your tones to blues instead of greens, the face would be beautiful
Give that boy a reason to hide and make him hideous! Just keep at it!

I don't know about perfect, but... *chuckle*... you're right, elves ARE supposed to be way better looking than that

Snuggle up to him? *whimpers* Awww, demmit
Well, well... I'll keep at it. But by MY standards, that is a VERY ugly face *chuckles*... as I said, I tend to draw faces VERY pretty. For me, this is... *pauses*... well, suffice to say that I had to restrain myself from just making that nose really small and cute

Symmetry is what makes a face beautiful(up to a point, then it begins to look odd) You might try forcing asymmetrical features and exageratting some of the proportions. Instead of a graceful sloping line for the bridge of the nose, try a bit straighter line, possibly a hook. Emphasis the brows, hollow the cheeks, play with the line of the jaw so it's not so well defined. Lots of things you can try. You can definitly tone down the fullness of the lips to help cut down some of the "pretty" quality about him.
Bit tricky, as you expect an Elven character (I assume it's Elven) to have an unearthly grace to him/her.

Hey Enayla! You might want to try to play with asymmetrical features. That way you don't have to throw in warts, scars and other disgusting details to decrease the cutee-factor of your characters. Odd headshapes work too, like exaggerated or too small chin, cheek, forehead, whatever. Just a thought. Beautiful work, BTW! The cutified one looks like a girl... |
