...No one special just made up a face.

It's made with a pen on xerox-paper(i love xerox-paper, hehe), and coloured in Photoshop roughly.
Any comments?

Background colour could be a little different (now it gets mixed up with the face), but otherwise than that it looks very good. I'm impressed.

mike,I think your pencil works the best on that one.
you had a nice clean line on it, maybe you put too much shading when inking( my taste )
the hair : everything was said already with the silouhette of them and one line in the middle . nice.

That picture (at top) is really cool. The only thing that could be better is the eyes. Try adding some more details or highlights for them to enhance the picture.

Because of the stark contrasts and lack of midtones, it looks like a print of a woodcarving or something that you see in some medieval Bible somewhere. I give it three thumbs up.

i still like the more simple style more. things such as 2d_106pic.jpg in your 2d gallery.

that actually made it's way on my desktop background.

Thanks again for the comments.
I've done a couple of changes. Does it look better?
I like the colours better. Fixed the eyes and hair a bit.
I saw some really good Brian Bolland
covers and i wanted to try something simillar. I used to much cross-hatching, though. I also had Mucha's way of colouring his linedrawings in mind. Kind of strong, but still desaturated colours with pretty low values+ i love the way "The killing joke"
was coloured. I think it's more what i wanted now than what it was before.
Chapel: I dunno why, but they always tend to end up like that:/ I have to admit that i like the hairstyle, though
here's what i inked with this time:

Just a thick and a thin.

Bg, i tend to underrestimate colouring
I'm very sloppy and i hope to improve in this area. I changed the colour on the girl
so that it is more different from the background.
Aiko: Iike it alot! I just saw it on the other forum. I was on your site a while ago.
Really like the drawing with the toes and
the "self-hug" drawing. Great shapes and great shading. Anything new on the way?
Let me know! Thanks
Beet: The rough sketch is often better than the finished result(hmmm. that sounds familliar to me) Dunno why. Maybe i'm too hung up on the technique so that the rest suffers? Another thing to get better at.
I Agree with the hair, so i changed it.There was too much going on all over.

Assa: Oops! Does the hatching make it look like she has hairy arm-pits? Please get back on me on this one. I like my girls "shaved", hehe.
Light: Thanks! I think that the highlights
in the eyes allready do the job. making them brighter will make the eyes to sharp i think.
I've darkened them down abit so that she don't look like a posessed demon or something.
Faust: I want to try different things and styles before i decide to settle for a specific style. I rarely even do a picture the same way as another. That's pretty much what keep me going.
Great critiques!
It has helped me out alot!

Cool. Might be time to get a new pen though.. hehe. How long did it take you to ink? By the way, I'm not sure if you did it on purpose but the are two marks by her right eye that are the same tone as the shirt. Looks a little out of place.

You ever use gellyrolls? http://www.gellyroll.com/

Oh man, I love your style. The inked one looks good and the only thing I can point out is that it looks like she has too much hair on the back of her head (don't know how to explain it). I like the new coloring better. The nicest thing about this post is that finally I can see one of your preliminar pencil sketches. I was starting you were like Mozart and you drew that cute girls inked directly, and that was depressing me, really
Only one more question. Is that pencil drawing the very first stage of your desing or you do some kind of structure under it? It will help me a lot to know that.

Chapel:I fixed the colours on the white areas
of the eye, but i don't think it would have
made a big difference either way:/Hmm...What do you think? The sketch and the inked drawing together took about 30 min.
Zensuke:Thanks. I think i know
what you mean with the hair, i was going
for this straight-from-the-bed-hairstyle(don't remember what it's called) It's supposed to look that way. The penciled version is the first sketch. It actually has
some structure lines if you look carefully, but they don't show that much because of our shitty scanners at work. Glad you liked the newer version better.

I was referring the curve beneath the eye. If you looks at the curve beneath the eye closest to us there is a streak coming from the shadow that is the same color as her shirt. Also, there is a dot on the same eyelid. Probably just can't see it on your monitor. Oh well. I'll just plant the thought in your head so it will eat away at you while you sleep.

Nice micke, but she looks the same as all your other girls. I think you need to try and play with some different hair styles.

What do you ink with?

Thank you for the comments!
iNaNe:
The drawing took roughly 30 minutes, maybe more to do i think.
Guy, thank you. I'm not too satisfied with the colouring, but thanks anyway
Burnout: Yeah, it helped quite a bit.
Here's the first rough sketch and the finished inked drawing:

all crits already been said

IMO the very first sketch
has a much nicer expression as the final version
on the sketch she looks kindly suprised
as for the final version she looks more like she was scared

You suck man!
(Not really, I just didn't want to sound like everybody else )

Nice pic, but I don't like the inking on the mouth area. (that really black spot right above the upper lip)
Could be because of that xerox paper though

I tried reading all those posts, but I had to skim thru some of them.

I'm wondering about the desired expression. Is she supposed to be scared or disgusted? That's the image I'm seeing. The orange background is really pushing that. It's an un-nerving color. If that's not what you wanted, change the orange.

And the background is awfully bright compared to the face. Perhaps it should be less saturated.

I'm back...
Chapel, i saw that dot and the line. I originally had some subtle high-light lines in the face, but i decided to take them away and i did'nt see those two spots. They are removed now.

Here's the colouring that Chapel did:

It's nice to see other version of drawings.
If somebody else wanna try, please feel free.

Poxen: xerox-paper is copy paper. A very
thin type that are used for taking copies.
(till kopierings maskiner) It's very thin and not too good to work with, but i've grown to like them Especially when sketching. it's very cheap.

Thanks, Joa..
We have a thing we have to start working on
soon I'll call tomorrow.

Silber: I did'nt have solid idea for it, so i just did it and i probably changed a few things as i went along. But i actually like the last one better, looks more surprised, atleast that's what i think.
Kos: I was'nt good enough with the pen in that area. I can fix it
Seraphire. I was doodling in PS(just black and white) and i came up with a expression
that i liked(the surprised look)Caught unaware or something. I like the extreme warm colour on the background and the fact that she is pretty dark and cold compared to it. It might not support the expression, but i think it adds a interresting contrast..
Transcendence: Who?

Thanks for helping me out!
