Found this lying on a temp directory and decided to finish it as I heard someone complaining the lack of detail a while ago.
It started out as a marker sketch in my sketchbook, from where I scanned it and painted over some basic shapes a while ago. Tonight I added a lot of detail and defined the shapes more, plus some texture around the guy's skin. Total worktime maybe 4 hours, this version is resized to 50%.
Here's the old pic:
And here's what I added today:
I really like the smoggy background city...
Note to self: make more colored stuff.

nori, zthee, rob, jaymo:
Thanks. I kinda regret not painting it in color in the 1st place.
bilbo:
Lately I've been struggling with the problem having the background too bright or too much the same level of contrast as the foreground making the main subject get lost on the pic.
Good examples being: http://members.surfeu.fi/pveik/turhatjpgt/havkka2.JPG http://members.surfeu.fi/pveik/turhatjpgt/aliencity2.jpg
This is why I kept the background very foggy, and lightning wice there shouldn't be any problem with a local bright lightsource existing near the character. Also, with distance (=more particles and molecyles and whatever on the air between viewer and subject) everything should lose its contrast and sharpness until fading away totally.
I was thinking about the diffuse light source lighting the under parts, but after consulting ceenda I decided to let it be dark. Go blame him! :] Except for nighttime, you can thank him for saving them.
There are some small things I want to fix, such as the "three nostrils on one side of the face" :).

That's one cool image.. i love the character design and the composition.. . i'm a bit "troubled" by the lighting - it seems like a dark, smoggy location, yet the lighting is very bright and harsh.. although it adds depth to the image, i'd expect the light to be more diffused, and reflected onto several dark areas.

I like it. Good form, good contrast, nice detail. You might add some of the lights on the distant buildings that are suggested in the first image.
