does anybody ever just want to throw something and scream at the world and just say "FUCK YOU!" to everyone? I get so frustrated sometimes, with my life, with my art, with ... well myself and everyone around me I just want to explode. I hate this world so much. The shit that goes on these days is so unreal, and our society pisses me off so much. I'm rambling and not making any sence so I'll just shut the hell up now.... or I could go on forever with everything that is wrong

You need one of those tear-apart stress dolls.
:P
But seriously. Art can be very therapeutic when you're feeling like that...a nice cathartic violence piece where you practically murder the paper with your pencil. Oh yeah.
Music works too, probably even moreso than visual art, because it's so immediate. Nothing like pounding on a guitar cranked up really loud to get out your aggressions.

Boy, do I know how you feel.
It sometimes feels like all the shit in the world is being piled up on you, and there's nothing you can do about it.
I usually vent my anger like Affected, punch a wall or something to that effect. Pain can sometimes be such a relief; just for a brief moment your mind is purged of everything else and only the pain matters... Though I don't recommend it on a regular basis, I'm a strong believer in rage-therapy.
B has a point as well, instead of games causing violent behaviour, for me it often works as a subsitute. A virtual-kill a few people, and I feel MUCH better.
Ahh, ranted enough already...
Hope you are feeling better by the time you're reading this.

Thanks I just get so fed up with everybody and politics, society... everything. I'm disgusted by my country, my peers... just fed up in general with everything. The excuses of why people do the evil shit they do. There is no excuse, you know what I mean?
Shizo, I had a friend from Georgia, Soviet Union (it's not the soviet union anymore though, is it?) She was a very sweet, very intelligent girl and I miss talking to her when we went to school together. I haven't considerd moving there, but I have thought of going to Sweeden. My boyfriend and I have a friend that lives in Stokholm (how do you spell that?) But we have not enough money, and it's very cold there.

Hmm. If you don't like being depressed, don't come to Scandinavia. Trust me. 18 years of experience speaking here. It's dark and gloomy for 10 months and then for 2 months the sun doesn't go away. So if you're gonna visit, aim for summer (June & July).
That's the first thing I'm gonna do when I graduate; move to place where the sun actually shines and it is WARM. Had myself enough below freezing degrees to last a lifetime.
Oh btw, I'm from Finland (not part of Scandinavia, but as close as a country gets...)
So think twice before going to Stockholm. Consider yourself warned.
PS. I should probably add (to avoid the wrath of all Finlanders and Swedes here) that aside from the weather, Sweden and Finland are both nice places to live in/visit.

Oh just an afterthought and more to do with original topic... Heard this somewhere, and though somewhat corny, I think it's rather comforting:
"Don't worry, it's only life. We all get through it." <- optimist me
Oh, and:
"Life is a fatal sexually transmitted disease." <- pessimist me

I'm from Finland, too, and I don't find the dark period depressing at all... And I like snow. It should snow more. Besides, you didn't mention the beatiful summers. Well, it's beautiful when it isn't raining, and even then it's great. So do drop by around here, if you ever get the chance.

Yes, We (as people) made the world the horrible place that it is. You can either let it piss you off like you are doing. Or you can learn to "take it as it is"
Here are a few examples:
South Park - You can be an A-hole and call a PTA metting about how filthy this show is and get all pissed off. OR, You can take it for what it is and laugh at that fact that it makes fun of everything, includeing people who are too self absorbed to understand that this show is trying to make us all see how self absorbed we all are.
www.rotten.com - You can write letters, piss and moan and do all you can to try to get this site off the net. OR, You can simply not visit it and get on with you life by accepting that fact that there are and will allways will be sick people who like to see that kind of thing.
everything else - People are starving to death, People are killing each other in horrable ways, People are lying, cheating, and stealing. You can take it all in untill you explode and become just as bad as the things that make so upset. Or you can turn off the TV News and try to improve the world and yourself in small ways. Plant a tree, Drop a dollar in homeless mans hat, paint a picture of a bunny, find something that makes you happy without hurting others.
I find that anger is an option no matter how much it seems to outnumber your other options. In the end it is you who either chooses it, or turns your back on it.

They're good examples LeChuck and I think exactly like that when things like that happen.
"In the end it is you who either chooses it, or turns your back on it."
I used to choose it, but now I've learnt to turn my back to it. I wish more people would.
But we all get angry. Because anger is a part of us. It is a human emotion and part of who we are, along with all the other good and bad emotions we feel. We just have to learn to deal with it and try to not take out our anger on other people or let it affect people around you.

Phil, you always come through. That's a good idea.
I'm not pissed off anymore, I forget what was bothering me. Not South Park though I'm one of those people who doesn't watch the news for that very reason. Because I don't want it to upset me. But you are right, you can either bitch and complain and get your panties in a bunch about stuff like South Park or you can just not watch the God damn show. I think mostly what was bothering me was stuff to do with my personal issues more than this shitty society in which we all are forced to dwell in.... Things like not being good enough, as a parent, as an artist, as a friend as a person. And then there's the forever living question, am I living up to my full potential? Or that high standard I can never quite meet that my family holds above my head. The family part I am quite over, I left home at 17 and they have not really been able to get under my skin since. And so on and so forth......
Anyway, I feel better... |

Ugh. I remembered I don't like what we've become. Again.
Elevators. They're simply awkward. I ended up on one with the girl who lives next door to me (Or so I think, who knows their neighbours, these days?) and she just looked away the whole way up to the 5th floor. I stared at the elevator buttons.
We're fucking pathetic.

As an outsider reading the post and followups, I saw an apparent trend that some of you might not have noticed. It is ironic to me that people living in a first-world country get agitated about things like how people react to a certain TV show, or about how things they see on the news upsets them, or about how they are depressed that they aren't living the best quality of lives that they can. These are all higher stage needs according to Maslow. Most of the supporting followups can be summed up as "Don't watch the news". Hmmm... I live in a country where violence and crime is a part of everyday life. It's hard not to "watch the news" when you hear the gunshots yourself, you see the bodies yourself and you wake up in the morning hearing how someone was gang-raped 15 times 3 houses away. What do I do to "not watch the news". Shift perspective. Look at the tip of your finger. Imagine that you can zoom in until you see the atoms. We humans are a carbon based lifeform. Imagine that you can see the carbon atom on the tip of your finger in the amino acid molecule. Where did that atom come from? Atoms like carbon can only be formed in the intense heat and pressure found in the centre of a star. That atom on the tip of your finger was in a star at one point or another, long before our planet was even formed. Possibly even before our solar system was formed. Our human dramas and fears are insignificant in the bigger scheme of things. One day we will all die. No one will worry about any of our problems a hundred years from now. (If they will, well then you really have a problem!) Our only concern should be trying to make the most of the time that we do have.
(now I'll gleefully await the flames) |

I understand that different people experiance different types of hardships. I was just trying to relate the ones I thought applyed to the person who started this topic. |

That's normal for you, Metron. Deal with it. That's like someone who was born blind, should we give the blind person sympathy? No, because blindness is all they have ever experienced - so they aren't suffering. We are born without a sense to read other people's minds, are we at a disadvantage? From our own perceptions no, but an alien race far more advanced than humans who are capable of telepathy would think "How do they manage?" if they were a fool.
From what you have said, Metron, your priorities are very different from most of ours. We have lives with problems and just because the problems are not perceived by you as significant, doesn't mean they shouldn't be attended to. |

me? I just beat the shit out of people
seriously though, especially you leChuck, don't be so damn ignorant. people are still starving to death wheter you watch it or not.. doing something about it is the answer
btw. Last week I ordered surround speakers for about $400.. I could have donated that and saved a coupple of lives. urkk.. it hurts to be smart.. :P
I have to debate everything I buy with myself.. it's easy to justify computer stuff that I use for my drawing and stuff 'cause on day that might turn into big money which I can use to make an even greater differance. but speakers so I can watch bladerunner for the n:th time.. hmm
ah hell.. in the end, life is beutifull and worth living (it is, promise!)

Wait, that was harsh. Don't take my last post to heart, some of it doesn't apply. I think we should all be nice to each other. That's all. I try to be nice but sometimes my wicked side spites up in a fire of burning hatred. Oh the burning! |

Metron, it is human nature to take things for granted. That's why we see such petty things as 'problems'. People, by nature accept the world that is presented to them, we are so ignorant and self absorbed that the things which seem petty to others seem big to us. The reason they seem big is because they are immediate things in our lives. We are so self absorbed we only pay attention to the immediate things in our lives (ie, problems). Did that make sense?
If a person from a worse situation was taken, put into a 'higher class' standard of living and his memories of the past erased. He would soon begin to take things for granted and complain about things that really don't matter. Why? Because he's human.
I'm not attacking you, I'm purely using the example you brought up to illustrate a point and to answer why we take such petty things for granted.
Even though these undesirable things we do and feel are a part of us, (they are what make up humans)I guess all we can do is try to see the big picture and not get carried away with our emotions. (very hard I know)
So don't feel too bad LeChuck, you're only human

I think 'human nature' is one of the poorest excuses ever for acting like a total bastard, as we all do. Damnit, we're quite capable of regulationg our behaviour. Evolution is not just physical, it's mental and societal, too.

Sorry LeChuck, I just gotta say one more thing. I agree with Affected. Using the human nature thing as an excuse is pathetic. We all have to try to rise above all these bad things. Maybe in a few million years people will and we'll evolve into a more peaceful species? (Another one of my whacked out theories...)
Just ignore what I just said....
