My experimentations on painter. I really dig this one, even though I wish it looked...bigger.
I guess that would be up to perspective and all that. Too lazy right now.
Thoughts?
{edit) oh yeah, picture

Superman's lair?
just kidding, very nice pic, I think if the guy in the foreground was smaller, and maybe if there was some sort of scale reference in the distance to illustrate the enormity, then you may increase the gigantic feel
Again nice pic.

So far I've found that it feels more versitile. I mean, that's sort of obvious with all the brush options, but it just feels like you can create more origional looking things with it (or I feel that way at least). The one major downfall so far is that it's harder to control. In PS you just change brish size, opacity, and your done. But, I guess I still have a lot to learn. |

Brrrr. It's nice, reminds me of the cave in fight club. I think you could improve the icey feeling in there, though. A little more blue-ish and translucent. Here is what i mean:
The picture is from www.imagebank.com, it's a good place to search for reference pics, IMO. I just typed in "iceberg" and got six pages of arctic atmosphere.

Like how it's done.... nice frozen lake, might want to emphasize on the reflections there.. yah. you need to change the perspective to make it bigger I think. Or then again... just make the guy smaller.... because I'm wondering why he's on the platform.....and why the platforms so small. So definitely make the guy smaller and perhaps a spiral stair case on the platform he's standing onin order to make it unique. Also, might be nice if a yellow light source was coming from above those ice shards. |

Shrink the guy to 1/10 and you will have one huge cavern. |

Great piece Isric.
The first thing I noticed was that the blues looked a little too grey. Adding deeper blues to it may help to make the pic feel/look colder. At the moment it also looks flat and I think that making the sky darker might help to give the pic more depth. |

hehe, i think the little dude should be a little bigger so that you can make out what it is. I really like the atomosphere though, try making the dude like half of the original one, good job - like the colors a lot

I liked the old version more. I think it lost some of its feeling when you changed thecolor & the size of the guy.

I think that th palace looks smaller because it seems to be close tho the man, maybe you could try to fade the palace into the background a bit, put some kinda fog over it or something?
Well what da heck, it's very beautiful!! |

Well It is indeed a very nice improvement. But.. I think i figured out the problem. The cavern walls is the limiting factor to this picture.... maybe remove the left cavern wall.
And also, perhaps add a few small plateaus around the ice palace.... make it look a bit more like an ice palace... as it's lacking a bit. perhaps a draw bridge or something that you can compare sizes to.
[edit] ignore my comments for a while while i sketch this out on paper to check it out [/edit]
[edit] ok.. I think i figured it out. The distance from the plateua to the crystal palace isn't that far at all.... yet the size of the palace is almost the same as the plateau... so try increasing size of crystals.... or decreasing side of plateua... perhaps cutting off all that bottom stuff and moving it closer to the screen. Might also want to readjust the size of a lot of the rocks.. or just add in some smaller rocks if you want those rocks to be big.
hopes this help.and hope i didn't confuse ya [/edit]

Cool image, Maybe one thing to make it look bigger would be to make the image more wide screen. Add more to it.
Well what ever cool though. |

You could make it look bigger by putting the guy in the extreme foreground and blurring him a little for depth of field. Put some more icebergs in the middle ground that recede so we can get an idea of how far away the castle is. |

Nice piece, Isric!
I was thinking Superman as soon as it came up, too =) If I changed anything I'd add a little more contrast and up the blue just a tad. Maybe adding some deep blue-greens in the cavern where the figure is standing and then adding some very light values to the palace to separate the two areas...it might give the image more depth hence making the palace look that much bigger. Other thing is the reflections on the ice/water aren't quite working right now but I think that's because the image is still not sharp so it's hard to tell where the reflection/shadow on the water begins and the ice ends. Try deepening the reflections of the ice...check out the water in the pic that Jaymo posted. Otherwise, a great looking pic so far! I like the mist hanging around the palace, too.

Here's a version that uses a few of your comments. Is this an improvement? I can't tell.

I don't know if it's been said (if I could afford more time on the forum I'd read some posts), but I think one thing that is contributing to the loss of depth in this image are the values used on the spikes in the background. The light and dark shades are almost identical to the ones used on the very close arc over the image. There should be much less contrast between those colors.
Row.

Here's my over paint (well not really). I usually don't do this, but I really like this image. Excuse the crudeness.
