Woha, just got ps6 and thought I would doodle around a bit inorder to get used to the new interface features.
Thes are just two of the things that emerged. I think each one took about 20 minutes to do.
I think I may be doing a finer rendering of the "prisoner of war" pic. Dunno though, is it something that could be nice in a more finished work?

Pretty neat pierre. The POW pic though the guy looks a little too happy to be a prisoner. |

you are right chapel, he looks a bit too happy considering he may be sitting in death row, got to fix that if there will be a more finished piece.
capn,
the brush palette SUCKS, BIG TIME. Today I was thinking, while I was painting, that I would probably never get used to this change. Is there any trick to make it like before?
It is supposed to be a sword in his hand. He is holding it with the little finger on the blade. I know, one can't see that. It is very sketchy. I didn't want to make the sword too highlighted since it would play out his head, which should be in main focus. |

pierre, to make the brush palette not quite so crappy you can hold shift i think it is while painting to make the brush palette come up wherever your cursor is. might be alt or ctrl.. it's one of those buttons ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Pierre, once again your understanding of light makes me want to beat my head against a wall. You obviously have a great understanding of light and the way in which it reacts and reflects under certain environments. Is this all from observation, or do you have some rule of the thumb tips that you follow? If so, please spread the love.
I agree with Fianchetto on the POW pic. He shouldn't look mean or angry, but fierce, like he's been worn down to the core of his essence, almost animalistic, calm. I hope your understanding of the human psyche is as impressive as your understanding of light. hehe. I'm not worried.
Great sketches.

Weee. for your POW pic, I belive the light source is a little bit strong. With the light, it doesn't really convey the picture of solitude, desperateness, etc., but more of a blithe cheerful mood. Also, the area around his arms is a bit confusing. I took a long look at it and cant figure out if he has really buff arms or if he's got some kind of cloak on. Kind of hard to tell with all that light streaming in. Right now he's in a contemplative mood, or so it seems, so it would be better if you made him look down a bit I belivee. I don't think the hand would be there at all. but it would work. Usually when i think of POW i think oif the hand supporting the forehead. The lips could use a little bit of if you know what I mean And what's he holding?
Anyway.. really like your understanding of light. Second pic is great as well |

Very nice pictures Pierre, i like the lighting and the mood very much in both.
for the brush palette i just love the new option CapnPyro is speaking about, just hit ALT+ right click and the brush palette popup where your cursor is, it is sooooooooo good for working in full screen mode
you pan with space, you have your brushes with alt+rightclick, and no other things bother you on the screen ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Pierre- As always I like the work very much. I do think the P.O.W. looks a little "content", I would think his head a little down may bring the mood down with it. The mantra of the American P.O.W. is among other things, "If captured I will do everything within the limits of my ability to escape and assist others to escape." Maybe that thought could help with his expression. I don't know just a guess. I really like the lighting of the second one. Again, nice work.

I like the prisoner of war pic, but if you're gonna make a larger painting of the subject, the composition could be made a little more interesting and non-symmetrical?

Fianchetto,
Thanks alot for comments and the american p.o.w mantra. I didn't know of that. I forgot for a second that your background lies in the military. That comment will help a lot. What do you think, maybe lower his head, but letting his eyes still meet the viewer, just below his eyebrows, something like "It ain't over until it's over"?
Gecko,
any suggestion on how the composition could be changed to the better? |

Pierre- Yes, I think that would work very well. The word that comes to my mind when I see images like this is "determination".
