This is a concept image to evoke a feeling of awe and foreboding. My main characters are being led into the Elf city which very few outsiders ever see, or live to see. They are being led in by a companion elf.

The image is still in its rough stages, I got the idea this morning and spent about 2hrs on it.

How does the lighting look, I know the image needs refining.

What kind of feeling does this evoke from you?

Here's an older image that's been retouched, I'm not sure if its for the better. hehe.

Hey Skeez,
They both look really good. I really like the lighting in the first one. Are you going to do it in color. If you do I think it would look cool, but keep it dark like it is. Just a splash of color here and there and you got it. Nice work.

Brue: Of course, I just got a little bored. Does the camera angle work for the first, as far as awe goes? I'm trying to get a feeling of overwhelming awe, or fear of the elves.

I like the first oen and the second one although a duplicated color dodge layer might help the watered down colors. I like the elf idea.

Hey Skeeze. Nice job on the Elfwood image, I'm still not getting that feeling you say you were going for. I'm picturing a quiet scene with mildly haunting over tones. Sort of a cross between a deserted city and a desert. Try putting in the gajillion elves you said would be there, arm them to the teeth, and we'll be getting there

As for your girl, I love the lighting on her and you fleshed out the armor very nicely. My suggestion though would be to make the blood dropplet on the lower section of the armor a bit more splattered. Not by much, but just a bit more. When a dropplet of blood hits a surface it has a tendancy to throw out several smaller dropplets. Give yourself a bloody nose in the shower some time and you'll see what I mean.

Btw is there any explination as to why the girl is injured or did you just want to spoil her good looks?

The mood of the first one is excellence. I feel like the adventurers have just ventured and found a great sight and now are admiring it. The perspective is great and gives a sense of grandeur to the painting. It might help if you altered the angle of the heads so they are looking up in amazement. Hope this helps.

The first pic looks really nice, but I found that the bottom half detracts from the sort of awe-inspiring grandeur that the top half seems to instill. Perhaps if the ground was flatter and the people were smaller compared to the trees and buildings it would work better.

Looks great.. but I think your original pic of the woman was better.

Awesome job anyhow

I would add, about the first image, more hutches and what not. Those trees are pretty big and spaced out, so little trees would not grow to well becuase of not getting enough sun. So there would be plenty of space and a pretty far perspective that could happen, if designed right.

I think is very nice angle, but what do I know. The girl is pretty sweet, I really dig the lighting as others have mentioned. Is the girl a project for something? Is there more to the picture...

Yoink!

Hey Skeezer,
I really like both images. The first one is very dramatic and interesting.
I really love the second one too! You've captured a sense of realism very well. One thing though, her ear and jaw bone seem a little weird. Almost as if they're stretched back or extended too far back.

Good work!

Uuuh since Im a major fantasy book reader i would say that that is not "realistic". What it needs is big and thick trees that have huge houses and bridges between them. Also a lot of color everywhere. This looks more like an evil elf village imho.

Skeezer, the Elfwood pic is AWESOME, I mean the wood itself, I agree with someone's oppinion that the figures distract the viewer
Is it the real resulution, if not, could you post it in the real size!!! And PLEASE do something about the company of the ring, their figures are ruining one of the best Surreal pictures I have ever seen !!! Serious.

Outstanding

Skeez- That first pic is great! Definitely has an ominous feeling to it. I can imagine hundreds of elves hidden within, peering out at the visitors. I agree mostly with what everybody's been saying about the figures; it would increase the feeling of vastness if they were a bit smaller. The perspective is a bit wonky as well; although the figures are in front of the trees, it looks as if the viewer is among them and looking up at an angle. You may want to push them into the distance and eliminate a bit of the foreground. Argh, hopefully that makes sense. Really excellent concept and superb lighting though, young rising star. Later.

Shantilly lace on a pretty face

The top half of that elf place looks great! I would continue with the grey tones however (I've said so much about grey lately its almost disgusting). But yeah, great work on that.

Looks very nice, good atmosphere. You should just go on refining this further. What feelings this does evoke? "Let's go, kick some cutee ewok-arse!" No, it's more like "fascinating, but frightening". Adventurous. It could evoke a little more awe, since it's an elvish city. This looks very deserted and hopeless, like an elvish ghosttown. Don't know what you are going for.
As for the girl, I don't think the picture needed the blood. And it should run down more straightly to her mouth, then pour into the edges and run down from there, IMO. And she might probably have wiped it across her face, when realizing she was bleeding. The blood near her eye is in a strange place, for concave areas are much more unlikely to be hit. Well. Bla.
Just my 2c.

Skeezer! I love that tree elfwood pic, elfwood.com rules by the way.

I kept scrolling up from the bottom and i could see it on a fantasy movie panning up and giving that breathtaking view. Very well done in my opinion. Very cool.

And I love that girl, very photorealistic, I love it. I can see that in a movie too. I can hear the glor music in the background.

Great stuff!
