Hello,
I thought I would post something I'm working on. Crits and comments are welcome. I've worked on it for almost an hour, and after having a break from it I noticed some small errors -- the mouth or chin doesn't look centered properly.

Here it is:

Cheers

Ahh....its good ol arnold. I can't get enough of him. Hehe, he's funny. Anyway.. I really like the pic. Try to make the glasses look like they're off his face a bit... his brow is a bit furrowed above the glasses.... also you can see part of his face through the glasses on the ref pic. The thing thats a bit wierd about your pic is the right side. The jaw just kind of juts out. It actually slants in toward the chin. Make sure you correct that. Also the lighting on the right should almost match the lighting on the left. (around the shin) Doesn't match in your pic. But hey.... I really like your pic and hope you post it when you finish the whole pic.

Nice!
Like EviLToYLeT said, look again at the sunglasses. They go past the edge of his face, and are raised off a little bit by setting on the nose.
His face is pretty blocky, keep that in mind when working this image.
You may want to lengthen the face some more also. Bring the shadow from the left closer to the bridge of his nose, His nose is skinny at the top and then it flairs out toward the ends. And it's wider at the bottom too.
yeah, the jaw line should come in a little bit, his face isn't too wide in the other painting.
For what you have now, it's turnning out pretty nice. Keep it up and let us know how it goes. Great work.

Just a little tip. I looks like your putting too much detail into the image before you get your shapes down. In the future you may want to concentrate on the shapes and proportions before diving into the details. I have the same habbit, it's hard to break.

Hey Manny,

I think the thing that jumps out the most to me is the mouth. Arnolds mouth seems to be very wide and very angular and sharp. The one in your drawing seems slightly more "smoochy" It still has that badass look but it doesn't really look like arnold.. maybe try and make the top lip a little darker and drag it out further.

You also might wanna try fixing the shape of the head a little bit just because it almost looks as though it's a face painted on a pole. There's not much of a change in width from top to bottom - of course this will also change a bit once you add hair

Keep it up!
Beth

Hey, three comments already. Wow.

Yeah, I have to work on that. I'm fighting my tendancies to create flat two-dimensional work. Ack.

I must have my Gamma set a little darker -- I can't see anything that's behind the glasses. I'll adjust it to compensate for it.

Yup, your right. It still needs quite a bit of clean-up work. I think it's remnants of some erasing I did to try to get the proportions right.

That's another problem I have -- I tend to make objects a little wider than they actually are. :\

Yeah, it's hard -- I get a little ahead of myself.

Good point. Maybe I'll title the work as "Terminator:Pout baby, POUT!" I'll work on that too.

It's great to have others put their perspective on this... it helps me "see" what is wrong, or needs fixing.

Anyway, thanx a million!

Cheers

Here's an update of the pic so far.

I've been struggling with the likeness and I'm pretty much tired of it and chalk it up as a learning experience. I'm pretty happy with the results despite some of the flaws.

(EDIT: New version was uploaded today -- I focused mostly on the glasses.)

Cheers

I still think you should make the mouth a tad wider =)

Here... I did a quicky paint over to show you what I meant... now for one thing I suck at portraits and I'm no expert. Mine probably looks awful too ^_^

But this is just to give you an idea...

I fixed the nose a little as well because in yoru image the nose almost seems to be pointing another way than the face. I used dodge and burn to be quick but obviously you would want to avoid that. :>

I hope this helps you some!

Hi Beth,
Thanks for the hand.

Here's a differnet version going along the same idea of what you did. I also widened the mouth a little and worked on the nose.

I think it's somewhat of an improvement.

Thanks a bunch

EDIT:Now that I compare the old version I posted last night with the new one, it looks almost like Arnold was sneering Billy Idol-style. Heh heh

Cool beans Manny, looks good!

Your version looks 10 times better than mine too, but then I knew it would, hehe

Thanks! Truth be told I was really taken with how you rendered the detail on the nose and lips. Very good stuff.

I'm considering loosing the glowing red eye. It's not really necessary and I'm starting to have second thoughts about it.

Anyway, thanks for all the help!

Cheers
