here's the deal. i've been looking around for a printer, but i'm pretty clueless on this market. i'm looking for something that would make prints of stuff that i could sell at comic conventions and such. it doesnt have to be pro level, but image quality is my highest concern.
i have been looking at the EPSON Stylus Photo 1270 and the HP DeskJet 1220C/PS, and in the $400-$600 range. i'm leaning towards the epson, but i thought i'd get the opinions of the forum.
has anybody used and liked either of those, or can anyone make some other suggestions.
thanks.

The one I have, is fucking great -- HP Photosmart P1000 -- Prints up to...9x12" I believe (sorry, don't know the A* paper sizes) -- The clarity is fucking great; It can print up to 2400x1200 DPI, but the stuff I print at 300 DPI is as clear as you'll get...The stuff on glossy paper looks absolutely fabulous, and the print life for stuff on that glossy photo paper is around 6 years (presuming you don't preserve it) -- Danny knows a bit more about it...He clued me into some stuff, so he'd probably be better able to help you out.

Sorry ta bump, but....A4 is the equivalent to 'Letter' (for you Americans, yours is a tad longer), A3 is twice A4, A2 twice A3....you get the idea. I'm sure you guys have the equivalent to these.
Now one of the HP printers you mentioned is an A3 printer (bout twice Letter). Now if your after A4/Letter go with the P1000 or models from the same series (some of the high end deskjets are also quite dandy). But you can't really take my advice, cause i work for them and don't know jack really about other brands (though if it costs for support there, I can do it for free).
Don't rely to much on DPI because its a selling point that people place to much emphasis on. At 600 DPI you've got high quality, above this on a standard A4/Letter pic is nearly pointless (you won't be able to see the difference). So when they advertise 1200/2400 don't go ohhh aahhh cause you'll never need to use it anyway.
Photoret 3 is a layering method that layers the...err..dots over and on the edge of one another to build up a strong image, colours being bolder/brighter etc. So look for Photoret 1/2/3 to give an idea of quality.
Go to HP.com dude, more than you could ever wanta know!.

Get a Tektronix Phaser 780. Prints up to A2 in CMYK color, and blazing fucking fast too.
Okay, so youll have to dish out a coupla thousand bucks... but i you want to sell what you print, an $200 inkjet wont cut it. |

I have a $200 Epson Photo 750 and the quality is suberb on good paper (photo or glossy film), even without taking the fact that's it's a low-cost printer into account. I imagine the 1270 is even better.
There are websites around that analyse the print-out quality of different printers in excrutiating detail. I found those helpful in making my decision.
