Ok I tihnk I'll be a complete prick and post my showdown pic in a thread of it's own.
I've been messing with this for ages. I've changed the guy in the foreground about a million times.
I know I shouldn't really post this in a thread of it's own, but I haven't posted anything lately (I'm getting crit withdrawl goddamnit) and due to the ammount of changing and screen stareing this pic has put me through I'm pretty much blind to it.
I can see a few anatomy errors but I'm not sure how much they effect the overall pic.
Anyway coment and critique, or flame me for wasting a thread....I'm happy either way

Cool pic rinaldo.
I'm actually glad you posted in a separate thread. I'm afraid of even moving my mouse cursor near the Draw Club thread in fear that my computer will freeze up or my modem will choke trying to download a thread like that.

I really like the direction you've taken, the dramatic stance and composition. The guys arm is very nice also. From my eyes, his head looks a little big, but the hair is distorting my view of things and the cloth covers his body so I can't really judge the proportions.

I think it would look nicer if you gave the monster some richer greens and define the eyebrow ridge area a bit more. But that's a matter of personal taste. Are you going to continue the image or are you fed up with it?

Well, if you do finish it up, I'm sure it'll look really good! Good luck!

I like it, but the hat looks weird to me...
Also, he looks like a mexican of the wild west but the big green thingy isn't it's casual oponent, is it?
Oh, and the monster jaw and its eye looks strange to me.
Still it's a good picture. I really like the way you drawed the mexican

Very nice Rinaldo.... as usual
What settings do you set your brushes on?( if you use photoshop that is)

I am having trouble with the guys head. His body is facing toward you right. But it looks as if his head is looking back at you like it is his back that is facing you.

I get the pic. Thats just a little thing that was geting to me. The only sugestion I would say to that is to make the guys face a mor 3 quarters view.

Well anyhoo

Damn Nice

jason-yeah I had a bit of trouble posting it in that thread. not a fun thing to do

I think the head is probably a little big. but he looks short due to us not being able to see where his feet meet the ground.

I've been trying to get a hang of colour recently. following MR manleys advice and looking at the masters. the monster was done a while ago while the guy had some better colour work IMHO.
I might play with it in a while but it's getting old in my mind . what you've said need attention tho.

Ragnarok- Thanks, the hat is wierd . Half the fun with this image was drawing two things that wouldn't normaly be seen on the same page, so it may look a bit wierd.

I'll chuck in some quick sketches while I'm here.

joachim-

Blitz-I sort of completly redrew the body at one stage so I think you're probably right. His body is sort of in threequarters so his head isn't that far out. probably too far to the left tho. I should put a few more visual clues in there to suggest his pose better.

I use Photoshop and a wacom. I do most of this with a round brush set to opacity. for tricky shapes I set it to size (although rarely both at the same time). Sometimes I use brushes with a feather on them for getting nice smoth gradients. then if I want to really work it up I might smooth it out by blurring and then smudging (smudge with care, it stuffs me up a lot).errm....I set teh sapcing lowre tha the standard 25, 'cos it gives you a smoother stroke (but takes up more computer recources).
hope that helps a bit I use everyhitng at different times, usuialy I stay away from the airbrush but it has it's uses.

the man s pose seems quite weird regarding the brutality pose of the beast; seems as if nothing is happening for him

Great job once again rinaldo.

I am curios to how you made the veins for the beast, they look pretty cool, the ones along his neck and arms.. Can you please give a lil insight on how you did it?

thanks, keep up the great work, i really like the loose clothing on the guy with the hat, nice use of folds..

Like the pic, it almost seems like the guy
is casually fighting a bull...waving the red
cape or something.

Your sketches are great, are you going to
post an on-line gallery of your work (hope so)?

Bubonic-for the veins it's pretty simple. you just think in terms of basic shapes, they're round (cylicrical) forms that wrap around the body. Draw the vein as a line (set the width suitably), making sure it stands out by having the colour lighter than the colour of the skin you're painting on. then put a shaddow on it, taking into consideration where the lightsources in your pic are coming from.
of course you have to make it fit with the part of the body it's wraping around. like if it goes around the bicep, it will have to get darker as it goes into shadow etc.
I just try to view everything as a basic shape (as someone like Spooge would tell you to do). it just a matter of working out the lightsource and going form there.

The Dude-Thanks I hope to get a site up as soon as I get out of crunch mode at School. should be about a week or so (yay)

Hey Rin that looks way better than a few days ago. The main thing that stands out to me is the hat. The shading underneath doesn't really work. Looks like he is wearing a solid steel plate on his head. I think this pic would look awesome if you could sharpen it up. Still looks pretty cool as it is now.

very nice. Great colors. Great motion and a nice composition.

Still somethings you could change abit, though;
The head of the cowboy is a bit 2dish, and he's not really interacting with the beast (don't know if that was what you intended...?). Another thing is that since his head is alittle tuned towards the ground it makes the lineofaction a little weaker than it could have been... Raising the head (maybe even turn it against the beast and away from the viewer?) a bit would make for a far stronger pose, I reckon...
Also the beast's left arm is alittle funky around the shoulder area. You might want to get alittle more defination into that area...

Anyways. It's a really nice pic already. Just a few thoughts...

Chapel-yeah the one I sent you was pretty bad compared to this . What if I said (in a fit of artistic license) that the hat was a solid steel plate .

BooMSticK-those comments are good. I'm still very shakey with a lot of anatomy. there are a lot of problems with the pose that stem from bad planing here. drawing something and changing everyhitng else. it makes it all a bit disjointed. thanks for ponting those things out. I'm starting to see whats going wrong with it.
sort of looks ok if you look at it quickly but things are very shakey if you take a close look

Nex-

Eckhardt-thanks, I enjoy sketching the most.

Everything's been said. Except I like it a lot, too! Pretty unusual. Deserved it's own thread (look what they do with threads these days, anyway! You're happy to find something like this in one). Cheers.

maybe there is hope for this forum after all.

rinaldo - great drawing. i love the guys pose hes a friggin badass. i'd agree with BooMstick that the guys head is a bit 2dish especially in comparison to the lovely rendering on his sunlit hair and arm. however i love his pose as it is. the mixed theme (old west/fantasy) is great to see. i usually hate seeing guns and fantasy monsters at the same time but it works great here. the monsters eyes seem kinda dead and of different sizes (which could be cool if that what you were going for). adding a little bit of a highlight might help to round them off a bit and give them some life. i hope your not 18 or so (as i think i remember you posting in another thread) of else my job security is going to be quite tenuous once you enter the job market. . if your were ever to post a larger version i'd have a new desktop picture .

janne-Thanks

Chapel-Hehe, If I was good enough to work at a place like Liquid, I should be good enough to work at the places I've already applied to, and I'd be employed right now. then I'd have to move out to the states anyway...and you'd all think I talk funny (not to mention I'd think you talk funny)

Lukias-Thanks I love your sketches, I work straight with pen a lot of the time, as I think you do.
