Joachim convinced me to start posting more art on these dang forums... I'm the kind that i dont really feel like showing work unless its totally final and polished and looks like its ready to print or something, but he changed my mind to think that its ok to post sketchy type drawings and not feel bad about it. So i spent a little time tonight just to draw a bit for fun. Good therapy .....anyhoo, i'll try to this at least one or two a week, depending how i feel. Here is tonights....title: "Dadgummit"
thats the first thing that popped in my head when trying to name it...hehheeh

I like it, very nice colouring
It reminds me of a old worldwar 1 dobbeldekker pilot, still running arms in Africa.

As always Dhab, very fine work indeed. Color is very vibrant and you did a marvelous job with the wiskers. only thing I can really see that needs changing is the whole "finishing" of the peice Thank for trying to get back into the swing of things though, its nice to have something to aspire to.

nice! really great contrast, i don't know how you do that out of your head. it's neat how just that picture tells a story by the way he's dressed, the look on his face, eyes, beard etc.

that metal shiny stuff or whatever on the helm looks sort of goofy the best part of the pic though, is the new signature

Very nice, Dhab! You should definately post more quick stuff. I think it's easier to learn from stuff in progress, cause one can see the stages of your renderings. And if you think these quick shots look too crappy I don't wanna know what you'd say about my finished works...

Man Dhabih, yet another great painting. I stared at this one for a long while (and it's already 3am!!!). Very cool.

It's too late for crit...but one quicky - the nostril area seems a bit flat...

Awesome! Reminds me of that old dude from the frazzato comics....

As always your stuff blows me away. Even your half finished images are really cool and full of life. The thing that I like about this is that it is different from all your other works. It might be because of subject matter, the fact it isn't finished or something else.

What I've noticed with your other images, particularly in the face, (apart from untitled), is that they look a little bit too polished and too glossy. They generally don't show to well the effects of age or imperfections in the skin.

With this one it is nice to see some exaggeration in the cheek bones, the nose and the mouth. If you weren't going for this effect, you probably need to make the eyes slightly bigger. The mouth does look like it 'cuts' back into the characters left hand cheek bone a little too much.

The other main thing that bothered me was the back of the head, it just appears too flat and lacking depth. Maybe that is the incomplete shadow causing the effect, I don't know.

As per someone else's previous post, I think people can learn alot from the intermediate stages. I'm curious to see how you finish of the head gear with those little white/creamy streaks that you have goin' on at the moment.

its kinda funny, how only Matt Elder was the one to actually critique Dhab's work.. Don't get me wrong, that is a great peice of work, and i can't wait to see it finished. But it would be good to give suggestions, even the almighty "Dhab" can use some suggestions..

Dhab, are you planning on adding another tutorial, maybe even a quick one to the forum, or your site?

That looks great Dhabih. Are you still starting out with a black and white layer? Or have you changed your technique since that last speed post? Do you ever just do linework? I've always that if you improved your starting linework that pics would come out even better.

Sorry, bout all the questions.

That's a nice pic as everyone said. When I first saw it, I thought it was a weakling gladiator, but then I noticed it did seem, as kimzoll said it, a WWII pilot.

Your style is unique. Personally, I would like to see finer facial hair, but as you said, it's not done.

Heeey Dhabhs, nice to see you listened, don't seem like the result suffers at all from any rush or unpolished feeling, it gave the pic less smooth feeling, which I love -great stuff. So, I guess you will post lotsa stuff from now on

btw, one little comment/critique, if you don't mind. Often you have a very strong backlight, which is nice in a way. But to get a bit more og that, lights affects and bounces feeling, it could be very nice if you blended some areas and don't make it so strong in every area...more subtle, in a way. Remember, when you did that selfportrait.... this is simpler when watchin photo or in mirror or life, but there you had that light that hit the edge of one side and just lit up certain areas with a less independent color. I think that gave a great feeling. Did this make sense ? -hope so

great work as always

Dhabih I would like to ask you.....
What is his motivation for being here?
Was this an emotional look at your inner troll?
Does he like pickles?

He reminds me allot of the kind of guys I have been drawing lately....er..Without all the great coloring and stuff. But Im gettn there.

How many layers do you use?

anyhoo..... Great job

thanks all for the feedback! btw, what i meant is the sketchy style, not necessarily meaning "unfinished"....this drawing is finished,...just not "finished" youknow? the other meaning of the word...heh.

CapnPyro: cool you noticed the sig....i was trying it out...i like it more, its more collected, and not spread out so much like my old one...hopefully i'll stick with this...one of these days i should stop changing it...

Vortx: thanks, the nostril was one part i kept doing over and over again, i couldnt get it right and it was kinda late and i was too tired to look up some ref photos. I'll tweak with it some more before i add it to my homepage gallery. Frazato was in my mind yesterday, so thats probably where the idea came from....good thing i didnt add goggles or it woulda been exactly the same hehehe

Rinaldo: This one took about an hour and a half.

Matt Elder: Agreed on the back of the head, i'll fix that too before i add it to my page.

Chapel: This one was not started in black and white, i'm trying to stay away from that lately...i started this with a dark red layer and added in the orange hues. i hardly do line only anymore.

Joachim: strong backlite: agreed....i noticed i'm doing that a lot...i'll try some other types next time

Blitz: to answer your questions:

His motivation: I paid him $35
It was not an emotional look at my inner anything.
He hates pickles, unless its with fish.
I didnt use any layers for this

Everyone else: thanks, comments and suggestions duely noted
