Hello all,
I found this forum about a week ago, began looking at some of the posts and have really enjoyed a lot of the work that has been done here.
Well heres my two cents. I'll be posting more soon.

Wow!! Thats pretty cool .... ah yeah, welcome to the forum. Not quite sure how it was done, thinking 3D program. The thing that bothered me was the birds in the scene, they just don't seem to be in it probably. The other thing was the 'blue stuff' falling in the image. I'm not sure what it is and I think it would be a cool effect if it was done properly. At the moment it just looks like someone came along and painted blue stuff on it.
nice work though.

matt, i assume you mean the cracks in between the roof tiles for the blue stuff?
i like the blurred foreground pillars.
i'd lose the bird that is in front of the bell.

Hey looks great
i also think that you should loose the bird in front of the bell and bring him up and closer to us just above the other birds
oh and the blue cracks definetly are the roof |

It looks like a november scene because the blue is quite palid. And I like it... |

Hey, pretty cool! Another softimage-user after all...very solid work.
Did you model the stones or use displacement-mapping on them? Looks pretty detailed. And the depth of field? In soft or in post? |

yeeeah softimage users! good to see there are still a few of us left I'm still with 3.91 because XSI 1 was way too buggy for production, 1.5 is looking real good though, hope I dont have to switch to maya or max4 to get a new job!
was this a mental ray render or soft's internal renderer?

Thanks, I really appreciate the input from everyone.
A little background information on this image.
It was originally part of an open for a television special. The camera passes through the front of the Bell Tower as the birds fly through the side all while the bell and clacker swing back and forth through the air. This image is from frame 47 of the sequence with tweaks to the camera angle, lights and volumetric background.
Noted, compositionally the bird in front of the bell is a little weak.
Blue Stuff
Blue sky visible by spaces between the roof tiles
Specifically to answer Jaymos question:
The stones are modeled with 3 layered texture maps
The depth of field and haze were done in post
Thanks again for all of the input
More to come
LowJack
