Here's a sketch I did of myself using 2 mirrors, it was pretty tough to accomplish. Please rip it apart cause I'm thinking about adding it to my portfolio for college.

Give yourself Anime hair!

oh uh.... the shading on the cheek seems a bit hard... might want to make it more gradual...

good stuff.

why did u need the two mirrors? was your head too big to fit in just one?
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA jk
I think try and subtle out the black outline on the front of your face because it looks like there is strong light there, should look less flat.

A you sure there was a completly flat shadow on your cheek?. Even if there wasn't, use your *artistic liscense* (as my art teachers would say) to put some slight variation in values to allow for more visable depth.
Looks good but I reckon you could work it up even more and then put it in your folder.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming. I went back and looked at what you said lukias and it really looks flat. But what may be confusing you is I used my "artistic liscence" and added a pretty strong light source to the front of my face, because the light I'm using is pretty dull. Correct me if I'm wrong but I should probably make the cheek darker to correspond with the light I added to the front of my face?

I tried to color this one for fun with no reference, so it probably looks wrong tomorrow I'll work on the sketch and the coloring so please post some more comments

I'm a junior (grade 11) and I'm thinking about going to SCAD or the New York school of visual arts, I live in North East but I'm having doubts about going to art school.

You could add more subtle variation to the shading to give the face more shape (well that was said already it seems). And yes, I think there should be some more darker shadows if there is such a strong light as your highlights indicate. You should check the eye, it looks a tad flat because there seems to be no eyelids at all, just the outline. There must be some glaze in the hair too I suppose.

It's gotta be good since I instantly noticed just by looking at the pic that you're the same guy who posted the portrait with the funny smile (for yearbook?) a while ago.

Yeah you could exaggerate the shadows more, to bring out the form better.

Hey Above, just one comment on the colored pic. I dunno if you like to do ahem... interesting things in your spare time but it looks as though you are wearing pink lipstick in the colored version ^_^

Maybe try making the lips a more muted fleshy tone rather than pink-pink

Have a closer look at the light source, the eyebrow ridge gives away downward angle, but anyway you look at it, its......not right. if the light was coming down & towards the viewer (which is suggested though all depending where u see it as coming from)then the nose would cast more of a shadow than it is (down over the top lip). If your intention was just the downward angle then your forhead wouldn't be shaded as is, either the nose...........I think I'm right but am waiting for correction here.
Add depth, shading under check bone would instantly make a big difference.

Hey don't take my comments to seriously, I try not to give to much advise just in case its blatantly wrong.
