I know how to paint a lens flare when doing comic coloring, but I need to know a couple things. I want to make it on a new layer, but I can't find a layer setting that makes it visible enough over the background. You can only see it clearly over dark colors.

Why? In filmmaking and photography lensflares are generally considered bad....
But, if you must...
-Make a new layer of all black.
-Place your lensflare
-Changes the layer's application mode to something like screen or lighten
-Tah dah! Clichs in action!

Yes, they blow in filmmaking, but I make no films... I am a beginner colorist, and they are very commonly used n comic coloring. I think they look great in comics and they are used by the greats such as Liquid! and others.

What comics have you been reading? I don't know many good colorists that use lens flares. I've seen Liquid! use them once and that was in a background of an unpublished piece.
