Hi,
I wonder where I can download an image enhancer like they use in the movies. I would like to enhance images. Take for example the image below, I want to enhance that photo so I can read the license plate.
Thanks in advance,

pisangkecil, I dont think thats possible.
image enhancers like in the movies are not working programs but only self-running demoscenes.

The licence plate number is: K18L93, NY. You'll just have to trust me. Have a nice day.

I dont think they make image enhacers like that, and if they do then it would be very very expernsive.

I know it sounds silly, but people at NASA use that technique to enhance for instance pictures of mars and the moon.
- Tiger Eaten where can I download the program you did it with? I have some more pictures I want to enhance.
- Moonlord where can I download the self-running demoscenes. And how come these work, but aren't programs?

First of all, Tiger Eaten was being sarcastic. Second, the enhancements in movies are faked. They don't really take a blurry, over-exposed photo of a grain of rice and enhance it to see the entire Bible written on it.

Guys I'm pretty sure they use a live camera in order to do that. Not a still photo. The only thing you could do with a pixelated photo is smooth it out which would in turn lose detail. The examples you've seen from NASA are taken with the same camera at different zoom levels is all. |

yeah, I've seen that in x-files too, it does excist.
Also I know there's a program that can take a 2d image, turn it into 3d, and rotate it 90 deg so that you can see what was hidden behind on the original image. Don't believe me, see "enemy of the state".

The best image enhancer out there is Photoshop. If you want crisp detail in your photo then scan one at a higher res. If the photo is crappy quality then your out of luck.

Well, I've been a little mean in my previous post but here's the deal. It IS somewhat possible to extrapolate data from the antialiasing in bitmap images, and by comparing surrounding pixels and doing some very hi-tech calculations with some funky algorythm from hell you might be able to get vectorial information based on a bitmap... but they don't create image data as such... it's an educated guess using mathematics.
Of course, this is made easier with a sequence of bitmaps panning over a terrain (for example) and to merge datas captured from frame to frame... but again, there is so guess worked involved into this.
A few hardcore things could be done with bitmap images, as in guessing a general shape of an object hidden behind another based on surrounding reflections and light dispersion, but that is complete headf*ck... anyway, you can bet your life photoshop won't have a plugin for that. =) |

if you have windows 98 and the magnifer is installed --its on the windows 98 accessories
a option for people with less than perfect sight. anyways use the highest resultion picture you have and view it with the magnifier. |

I used the image enhancer that I programmed myself to read the license plate in the picture you posted above. The plate reads 'XJG9346'
I can't post the image here because the image enhancer program converts the image into a rotoflangem format wich cannot be converted into normal jpg/gif format.
If you have anymore pictures that you need enhanced, I will be glad to tell you what I see. |

Actually image enhancers do exist. They are used commonly in top secret agencies ..basically its just pixel smoothing and a lot of guessing so the results produced can vary. For example, a 1 may look like an l, i, etc. so the enhancers use probability and knowledge databases... as for other enhancers .... those require high res photos because when a face consists of 4 f*cking pixels....there isnt much you CAN enhance about it. |

First off, the fuckwad that said "That's the way they do it at NASA with photos of Mars!" is a dickcheese.
I used to work in the imaging lab at CalTech JPL and I can tell you right now it all comes down to good old fashioned elbow grease and artistic liscense. Sure, we use good programs, and in-house made filters to bring out contrast and other details, but over half of it is your eye picking out individual shapes and forms.
There is simply not enough data available to even have a computer pick out the closest matches to letters/numbers on the plates based on contrast between the pixels of the lettering, and the plate background. The photo is simply not detailed enough.
~{V}~
P.S. The plate reads 1-ID10T
