I played a bit with 3dsmax and made a small ~7 second animation-

thumbnail: http://members.tripod.com/nexxus00/animthumb.jpg

The filesize is 1,02MB (uncompressed: ~7 MB)
Screensize: 320x240
Format: Quicktime *.mov
Sound: No

unet.univie.ac.at/~a9627269/firstanim.rar

The file is compressed with Winrar.

I hope you like the characters

What! How DARE you be using quicktime? DIEE APPLE!!!!!!!!!!!(!)

Quicktime really sucks ass anyway so i suggest you be using AVI (which is compressed greatly in RAR).

I'll render a special Shizo-avi-edition and will post it then (in about 4 hours).. because just converting the Quicktime file looked terrible.

Nobody uses Quicktime anymore?

Here is the same movie as avi [Mpg-4 Codec]
http://members.tripod.com/nexxus00/firstanim.avi

thanks for telling me that.. its significantly smaller and better quality.

whats with the div-x codec?
Is it better than MPG-4 ?

Ah okay thanks for the information and for all comments.

the thing that the movie is so short was just because it was my first try at that.. still got lots and lots of problems with the animation process..

maybe I'll make a sequel or something some time

should answer all your questions - and here's a little something extra:

I like the anim. Cute characters, very clean and simple. Keep at it.

Personally I love quicktime- being able to create one source file in high quality for output on to video, web or web streaming, or computer presentations is fantastic!

When you use codecs such as sorenson correctly, you can achieve very small files with a very high quality (look at Pixar's preview for Monsters, Inc.).

I wouldn't trash Quicktimes' reputation because it's made by Apple either- they're a big player in the design industry, and have solid roots in video editing suites.

Sweet stuff dude! Keep it up!

*looks around* Spose I'll nit pick seeing no one else has, eh? @:-)
[b}*[/b] The red guy's feet fall below the ground when he walks on, and I don't see why he's standing on one foot when looking at the bird... oh wait, I see. You've got one extra walk animation in there. Get rid of those keyframes and that should do it.

* The bird's laughter at the end (I'm assuming it's laughter) isn't overly obvious. Try overemphasising it a bit. Squash his pupils into elongated rectangle-like objects so it's like he's closing his eyes with laughter. Perhaps.

* Looks like the red guy's hand is coming up too early at the end. You know about Stepped keyframes and such? Right click on a key and select the relevant key (like Cylinder01:Rotation). Experiment with these settings, or refer to your manual/MAX Tutorial book (if you have them).

Feel free to ask for help. Oh, a good Animation forum which unjustifiably is getting forgotten is Synj's.

LOL nice animation =] i wish it was longer..

Div-x has VERY low file sizes, but not everyone has it installed.
It's all GOOD if it aint .MOV!

I agree MOV sucks. Could the Quicktime 4 player be any shittier? Maybe I shouldn't ask. It's really to bad how everyone at my school thinks it's "the standard". Kind of like they think Macs are "the industry standard".
