I think the shadows in the face are midtones all the way; try to darken the deep shadows a lot more to give it some more contrast (like in the pupil, earlobe, nose etc.). Also you might want to vary the saturation, color and specularity on certain parts a little more(nosetip, chin...).

I like the pastel texture to it, quite nice.
Is it just me, or does the face seem a bit misaligned? Maybe it's just the way the shadows are working, but it seems that the mouth, nose, and eye brows are all slightly crocked (the nose especially -- that's mostly what is throwing me off I think). Although as you said, your intent was more aimed at coloring. Like Jaymo said, work on the highs and lows a bit more and maybe the rest of it will come together -- make the nose have more depth -- right now it just looks completely vertical, not much of a slope to it at all. |
