Yah, it's amazing what a shitty place America is but...when I go back I plan to just drink coke, eat the steroid packed burgers, get a girl, live my life and die. why waist me time bitching about it all?

Most americans ive met are very self centered and really have very little knowledge of anything going on outside of america. The following is a conversation with a women i met in america (she was in her late 20's, and unsurprisingly fatter than anything i had previously witnessed)

Women: HEY YOU HAVE A REALLY NICE ACCENT
me: thanks
Women: WHERE IS THAT ACCENT FROM?
me: im scottish
women: OH IS THAT IN ENGLAND?
me: no just next to england
women: OH, WHERE EXACTLY IS ENGLAND?
me: Its just west of the european mainland
women: EUROPE? ISNT THAT SOMEWHERE NEAR FRANCE?
me: i guess
women: MY BROTHER IS IN FRANCE DO YOU KNOW HIM?
me: No i dont associate with the relations of chronicly over weight and brain dead monkeys.
Women: OMG YOU ENGLISH HAVE NO MANORS
me: *sigh*

I don't know if I would laugh or cry...

What I've been told about americans isn't very good, but I suppose there are better persons among all those stupid people.

I can't believe all of these yanks you guys talked too didn't know where Canada, or various countries in Europe are. Or SERIOUSLY thought there were igloos in Toronto.

That's terrible. Definitely not the norm.

Ahh yes America... Being a life long resident of 18 years America is hard to classify into one big mass. I happen to live in one of the more affluent areas of the country where the impression that everyone has the that everyone owns a Mercedes or has three BMWs in the driveway and everyone has had a decent education. While alot of people where I live do, the majority of America is middle class or below the poverty line. Our cities are horrible, ridden with slums and crime (Unlike Canada). Our media is a wreck, CNN has been manipulated by the powers at be and has been turned into a giant propaganda machine, you can't get the facts in the open about anything. While this happens in almost all the other countries in the world, it is hypocritical for a country that prides itself on freedom. Our consumer products are cheesy but are nicely displayed and there are too many of them. Our movies are unimaginitive and rely on shock value. Our schools are very uneven in the quality of education they provide and even the good public schools encorage mediocrity because you can get by with doing the bare minimum. Oh yeah the voters of this country they are such godamn pussies instead of voting 3rd party they go with some corprate puppet that tows the party line. Lets see a over abundance of guns and violence, and not enough skin on TV. We always try to influence other countries so that we benifit from situations. I could go on forever about the bad points of America's culture and society but I'll mention a few good points. You can denounce the goverment without being arrested, you're "rights" are protected by law so that some wacko president can't all of a sudden yank them away. I am also fortunate to have the experience of visiting other parts of the world and parts of my country and I can say this every places has it's own pluses and negatives.

Oh yeah it seems like most of you have met some especially retarded Americans, because every one I know knows where england is and that igloos only occur in the Northwest territories or in Alsaska. Not in the Wonderful city of Toronto.

Probally you: ok.....now. i know where canada is, its right above north america. something ive been reading in a lot of the post here are, "what ive heard". well what you heard only goes for about 12 people in every state. the rest of us are just fine.

now, im not entirely americanness. im actually dutch/indonessian. but i would not want to live anywhere else but america listening to you fucking pigs talk in here.

Faust: I would say you were american by the text you type.

oh, and: you all talk about Americans being oblivious. most of the people non-american in this post wouldn't be able to say the 50 states without refrencing an atlas. so silence yourselves.

good day. i hope there is only one or two more post on this thread before it dies. please help kill it by not posting after that.

Everyone is talking shit about The United States, but what about Mexico? That's in North America too. Mexico is a shithole. But anyway...

I have a story to share. I was trying out for a school production of Our Town, a play which takes place in New Hampshire. For those who don't know (i.e. non-estadosunidenses), New Hampshire is in the far north east of the country, in what we lovingly call New England. A student asked the teacher who was directing the play what sort of accent they should use for New Hampshire...

Teacher 1: I don't know. That's in the midwest, right?

Teacher 2: Yeah, I think so.

Dull Student: So, like, we should use a Western accent?

Teacher 1: Yeah, a Western accent...

Now, the subtleties of how absurd this is may be lost on people with no knack for the nuances of the various accents we have here in the States. I can assure you though, that this is absolutely insane. It made me sad to be a United States Citizen.

And one further note: "America" is more than just the United States. I hate how we refer to ourselves as "Americans," when, really, America is comprised of a North, South, and Central. In Spanish they call us Estadosunidenses. That is much better...

Go USA!! Oi!

You are right Buttle, we call you estadounidenses because that is what you are, citizens of the country called Estados Unidos (US). But, sadly, people are begining to say americanos, so they are making the same mistake you do although we already have a word that suits better =/.

Bradford, IMHO that is being bad for them, but I like to be tolerant so I won't close the thread, still we can say interesting things (like A.Buttle).

Ah, and yes, most European people don't know all the american states, but we also have subdivisions of our countries in europe like the french departments or our spanish provincias. I know your states are bigger, but I think they are similar to our provincias.

Haha hell most Americans couldn't rattle off all 50 states.

Yes 95% of Americans are idiots...that's where we get the '5%ers' the 5%ers run the country because the other 95% are idiots with no drive to move forward and just go home after work and watch tv and bitch that they are not a 5%er. They have no motivation to better themselves in any way.

America still has the oportunity to move here with nothing and become quite successful, the only way you don't get ahead in America is because you are too lazy to do something.

In general though America is pretty crappy. More than half the citizens do not move from within their birthplace hometown and have no clue what the rest of the world is like. They are also arrogant enough to not even care. It's a sad thing really.

But, after having been around the world myself and seeing other countries I believe America still offers the best opportunity to succeed (at which point you can then live wherever you want to in the world)

By the way the US is so sectioned into different areas (not just the states) that visiting one part of the US will not give you an understanding of the whole US. For instance the east cost is totally different from the west coast and the south and the northwest. As for Texas...heh they are totally different than anywhere else in the US.

If you visited NYC and make your claims to know what the US is like by that one city, you are WAY too inexperienced to know what the US is like.

A lot of people are complaining about how stereotypical Americans are, about how Americans "think" this way about a certain country when it's not accurate ... however, everyone saying these things about Americans is guilty of following the same stereotypes. Ironic, huh?

Yes, Texas is MUCH different than any other place in the states. Mainly because most Texans believe they are living in an independant country or something Texas is the only state that can legally succeed from the US after all, maybe one day we will be our own country

Fear that day, hehehe.

I have to say that most countries have a majority of stupid people, I mean, they don't have cultural interest nor try to develop their knowledge.
USA is a country where you also have that high percentaje but, the difference is, they constantly claim themselves leaders of the world and don't stop telling the whole globe how good and fantastic they are. Therefore, people that know they aren't that great dislike this people.
Hopefully artist aren't on that percentaje (not usually), so I don't expect that kind of stupid people around this forum .

the absolutely largest amount of "my country rules you're from elsewhere therefore you're 20 times lesser of a being than we are!!11" fanatics i've ever stumbled upon my travels across the internet are americans. sure, i couldn't care any less, except when that shit is thrown straight at my face by the shittiest nation on this planet. that's my opinion, if you don't like it, don't read it.

every country does have their idiots. america is only one of them. i would like to say that i do not think america is the best country in the world, in any aspect except maybe military. but no wars are going to happen so that doesn't matter. america has this >$. and so long as its one of the largest countries with that, people are going to be negative towards it. when i was 8 i lived in spain, i was walking down a street with my mom and we had a european come up to my mom and spit on her shue and say "huh, american!". but everyone is not like that i know. i wont deny the fact that a lot of people hate this country. but it's only 1 in the pile of others.

You were in Spain? Where? I will go and hit that guy. Some people here are racists and they consider it as a natural way of living, but I get really upset...
I haven't fully understood what you have said (shue and spit? I'm still learning, that is out of my poor vocabulary =( ).
I have a bad opinion on some aspects of the US, but it is a good country compared to the country it could be (a lot of money and they still help other countries, that's great). I have to say that my problem is that their medium culture (read McDonalds) are destroying what we had before their boom. The prob is that a lot of the medias come from US or are US versions, or simply like the US fashions.
US sells their culture as the best one, that's what I can't accept.

Oops, this post has become longer than expected. I'm a bit tired today, sorry if I didn't make sense.

America not all that bad, its a great place to skate and the food is good, despite the fact it gave me food poisoning when I was there.Damn you Chicken n Biscuits!!! MTV America sucks, they like have one or two channels for all their music, in Britain we got 4 MTV channels. Its bloody hot over there, and when you see through all the amusement parks in Florida you realise its pretty flat and dull.

Yes, MTV sucks. I cringe when people call my generation (my parents are baby boomers) the "MTV" generation.
I mean, we simply MUST name every generation, right? And we aren't "the internet generation". That goes to "generation X".

So what are we? The worst two I've heard are "The millennials" and "generation.com".

One of the few things I'm proud of Spain is food. I have eaten us food, french food and english food mainly. French is similar to spanish, but the price is three times ours.
So, one of the good things of the us, IMHO, is not the food.

I typed a pretty long message but I accidentally hit delete or something so it's gone.

So I'm just going to state my main point again, that being that people anywhere should go see other countries. Generally I'd say that the less people get around, the more narrow-minded they are. I see that almost daily in this little fucked up village I live in. If those people ever left Germany they've probably been to Mallorca, which you can almost consider a German colony though .
This is especially a problem for the USA, which is so large and offers such a wealth of different climates and landscapes that people don't see the need to go elsewhere.
But to really understand how well off you are you have to go see a place where people are living miserable lives and are unable to escape their fate. Whenever you meet people from different cultures and talk to them you get a new point of view on problems and such. That really helps a lot.

-bugscratch

P.S.: Oh yeah and I hate those people here that go like "What ! You're going to the US ! How can you ! The people there are all so stupid, dumb and racist !" and when you ask them whether they've ever been there they answer "No".
