From Russia, visiting here for 3 years so far (still didn't kick me out lol). But i live in some dumpster at Skidrow so who would bother..
A few points about USA that i noticed:
- There are no mental hospitals in America, all mentally ill people are free.
- many, many, MANY people are talking to themselves and can be counted as mentally ill people.
- the American dream is to have fun constantly at all times. The more fun the better
- everyone thinks it's always cold in Russia (total lack of geography knowledge) i for example know names of most countries, most american states (while in russia) and most capital and small cities..
- everyone thinks that USA won World War II. But it gets funnier when i hear that americans also beat Napoleon :o
- everyone tries to show that he knows everything about a subject even if he doesn't. And if he does have some knowledge, tries to SHOW IT OFF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!
- racial crap gets on my nerves (ok we made a movie about Alaska.. but wait hold on, did we forget to put some African-American actor in there?!!)
- hip hop crap gets on my nerves (MTV goes crap-MTV)
- Beavis & Butthead is the best American show ever created, but nobody admits that they like it because there are real-life american people in it!! ehe
- America always wins, and if it doesnt win, the coward enemy had a great advantage somehow.
- Every country looks up to America and tries to be like it?? (Al Gore's words, many american people's opinion)
HEhahah common peoples, wake up.
I missed a LOT of stuff. I missed the whole way of life, but "our goal -> to have fun" pretty much covers it.
PS: Every African-American person in America has a 'cousin' and is in some kind of gang :p
YO!! IT'S MAH COUSIN!
[edit] i think i posted what faustgfx didnt have time for eheh. Also i generalized a bit here and there, but who cares - we all die anyway. And dont try to reply to me if you know whats good for you!

A couple notes for [Shizo]:
- Talking to yourself isn't a sign of mental illness. Talking to someone ELSE when there's nobody around is a different story...
- Beavis and Butthead was good, but The Simpsons is the best American show ever created.
- Without U.S. intervention in World War II, the results would have been slightly different. There's a Star Trek episode about that...
- Racial crap gets on our nerves too. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?
- And isn't it always cold in Russia?
In truth, many Americans dislike much about American culture. I am one of those Americans. But I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
And on a philosophical note: What is life about, if not enjoyment? Who wants to be on their deathbed and say, "God my life sucked, it was boring and tedious and I never had fun." ? Life is about making the best of your given situation. It's the ultimate experience. We all die anyway- we might as well have a good time getting there.
EDIT: Amen, Silico!

fucking hedonist pigs.
I live in america, I am not "american", the day I am american is the day I get a girlfriend. ;| I don't like stereotyping but some people in America are the worst, bottom-feeding, leeches you would never believe.
sacrelicious - what they meant by "having fun all the time" means that most americans don't a fuck about anyone except themselves and do anything for their own pride or amusement. Many are hyporcritical church-gooers, whereas others are fake bastards with such a thick coat of shit that they always hide themselves in.
When I first came here (america, at 11), I thought, "wow, everyone is so nice, they all say 'hi' and 'hello'", later the layer of shit melted away and I was left in the state of truth.
Instead of facing disillusionment, I quickly adapted, no, not by creating a thick coat of shit to hide any moral whatsoever, instead I stopped trusting anyone and everyone. Every bastard that smiles to you is fake, it's the standard I have learned to live by due to the environment I have grown up in. especially from the attitudes of teachers and fellow students.
ugh. . .america, what a sick place. When I am able to support myself, I plan to move to Canada.
sex . drugs . god . cash . america

01. commercialism - the amount of unecessary things they buy with practically no cause which is later thrown out anyway.
02. gluttony - go outside and loo around. . .not to mention the fact that american livestock has such a ridiculous amount of steroids and hormones in them, they were banned from Europe and Canada.
03. lack of morals - for some reason, instinctive morals, that people are bron with, not concerning religion and any other form of human interference, are somehow non-existant. Watch an episode of Jerry Springer and tell me what you think. .
04. guns - death - school shootings - war - hate - why?
05. This is a bit off subject but what the hell, it's worth it. . .
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
*whew* time for the american kids to take out their guns and shoot me. . .
I exagerate alot but I don't stereotype. . not all americans fit my description

also, people EVERYWHERE generally suck. the majority of the world is stupid, no matter what country they come from. i think america has INCREDIBLE potential, and in time it might become someplace truly great...it just has a long way to go because...as everywhere...it's run largely by morons.
i love what this country could be, not necessarily what it is. and all things considered, america's not such a bad place at all...compared to a lot of other countries.
i think america comes closest to the ideals of freedom that i believe most firmly in, and--maybe even within my lifetime--some of those might be realized. i'm willing to wait around to see. |

I won't either [Shizo], only very closed-minded people would turn this into a flame war.
It's funny- I also wrote another big response then deleted it. Absinthe said most of what I would have said. People in general have a long way to go... America is like a "celebrity" country, constantly under scrutiny and being criticized for faults that most human beings find in their own countries and even homes. I also believe that America has a lot of potential (as does the human race on the whole) as long as we can move foreward and not backward.

Nobody has said anything that I couldn't say about any other country in the world.
"You think you're the best!"
Damn right, I know we're the best. Just like some German guy knows Germany is the best. And Canadians know Canada is the best.
I think he have this reputation of being the rich land of milk and honey because of all that stupid shit we said in the 50's, then when people find out we're just as greedy, shitty, and just as stupid as every other country, it's a big let down. But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
And don't think some completely out of context, stupid Al Gore quote, Jerry Springer, or some ridiculous shit like that will give an accurate summation to a country with 300 million people, hundreds of racial backgrounds, and covering hundreds of thousands of square miles. I mean, Christ, I can't think of a more heterogenous population you could possibly generalize.

i won't argue with that.
canada is nice. i'd like to go back at some point. i have a major issue with not being allowed to have a gun (if i wanted to), but i still like canada.
what exactly is up with the gun laws there? what if you want to go hunting? |

i dont wanna sound too negative about america, but i DONT like it... i'm not saying all parts of america and all the people are bad, there's lots of great things about the states, but overall, damn... its just a dissapointment for me. i dont wanna get into it, but i think there's too much negativity there... i dunno, compared to all the different places ive lived in (in asia, europe, africa, and canada) i found i liked canada the best. maybe its cuz i had good friends there, but its such a great place to live. i guess i like it cuz its so multicultural and peacefull. i also love europe primarily because of the attitude of the people among many other positive things. dont like london though, hehe, going to college there now, dont really like it. anyway, dunno where the fuck im going with all this, hehe, just thought id share.
another thing that bugged me about some of the americans i knew (been going to american international school wherever i moved. dad's a diplomat, so he moves like crazy. sux leaving friends behind) is that so many of them are really narrow minded. now im not talking about all of them, cuz i had lots of good american friends, but its just the little things that get annoying. ha, i got two american step sisters who live there, and they hate it there. i think i'll shutup now, hehe.

absinthe: you_are_allowed to have guns here in canada for hunting, but you have to have them registered. you're not allowed to carry a gun on your person. i'm not sure of the exact laws, but then I don't have a gun, so it doesn't really matter for me.
as to america.. these are TRUE stories that have happened to friends and family of mine:
Canadian: I'm from the province of New Brunswick.
American: New Brunswick? That's in New Jersey isn't it?
Canadian: Um, no. Not the city, the province of New Brunswick. It's just north of Maine.
American: Maine?
**
American: So where are you folks from?
Canadian: We're from Canada.
American: Canada? Uh, that's in upstate New York, right?
**
Canadian in Toronto (in SUMMER time): How can I help you, sir?
American: Where are the igloos? I thought this was Canada.
Canadian: They're about 4 miles west of town.
American: Hey, thanks *leaves*
(just in case.. there are no igloos in Toronto at any point in the year, much less summer)
**
I have more stories. Many many more. And even though they are all hilarious (to non-americans) I don't think I'll write them all out.
Needless to say, I have little respect for America in general. I know actually, that there are many good and intelligent americans down south, but I have yet to meet one. I_really_hope I will one day. Americans, like all people, are probably very respectable individuals, but when one gathers them all together the lowest common denominator defines the entire mass.
so... my humble opinion on the self proclaimed "greatest country in the world"

id say that Americans not al but a fair few are oblivous to the outside world...
I mean the INternet is American nearly everything on it is American or run by Americans... (big generalisation but you know what I mean) And but you can't tell which country a person is from just by talking to them on the net..
America is big... If I lived there I would feel so insignificant
Also America inst the best country in the world..
it is one of the best but not the best..
but I guess thats a matter of personal oppinion. |

I don't have time to read all of this. I want to say that I do agree with a lot of points made in here. I am by far not patriotic to my country.. or proud of our McDonaldism-Culture. But not everybody here is like that.
I just want to say that I'm not a fucking bottom feeder. I work 7 days a week at two jobs to pay my bills. Still, I would give anything to a friend if they needed my help. I wear my heart on my sleeve and would give away everything I own to someone who needed it more. So I don't appreciate it when people sterotype all Americans... because we're not all worthless. Though there are a lot of people here that do deserve the comment. |
