Hey,
Well I have been working on this off and on for a couple of days. I would like to know what everyone thinks. Comments and Critique on anything. However, I will say that I had a brain lock when I did the background so I through up some color and let it ride.
Thanks a lot

Loukus- YUCK! YUCK WHAT? Although that is a great choice of words I was looking for a little more description. Thanks
Sa'ge- Yeah, you're right I was thinking of the same thing when I did the head. I will re-work the thing and put some nice gore and scratches and dents all over him. Thanks for the help.

Here's some amateurish opinions:
His hands/fingers don't look very natural. Try to look at your own hands in the mirror with similar pose for ref. I think the lighting is a bit soft and should be stronger and more dramatic. The armor and sword look little too matte, they could use some stronger highlights, color variation and shadows. The hair should have some glaze too. The cape looks quite good but is little flat with just a one color. Very nicely decorated sword btw.

MaLoRuM- No I've never played Goblins 3. But, I appreciate your kind words. Thanks
Rhomb- Hey, what can I say I agree with everything you said. I completely forgot about the hair and the cape. Hands are extremely dificult for me but I'm working on it. Thanks for the compliment on the sword. I had to look at a couple different ones to come up with that one. I'm not a big sword guy...
Thanks for the comments everybody!

Hey like it very much....reminded me of this game called executioner i used to play.... i think that's what it was... anyway. Just a few comments. I think that you should at least add some highlight to the hair and cape.. because your shading shows that their is a light source and no hair and cape is completely black... might help make your picture look better. |

Hi Fianchetto,
Yet another inspiring piece from you. Sometimes I wonder how you can find time for it. It looks good, I also think that your pics remind me much of video games graphics. They are very original.
I hope you don't mind, but I could not restrain myself from making a painting from your idea. I thought it would be neat if the warrior killed a giant instead of normal sized person. I changed the positioning of the feet slightly and changed the warriors grip of the sword. Your's has a very symmetrical pose, which can be interesting, but I thought it was somewhat too symmetric.
I gave the warrior a somewhat mad look, not angry, but cool and mad "so what, I just slaughtered a giant, I do this on a daily".
You have a very clean way of rendering your paintings. It is an original style but can somewhat turn too flat. Maybe try your hand at some shading?
I guess this theme (human holding chopped head) is as old as writing is, almost anyways. Judith and Holofernes of course. I believe Gustav Klimt made two versions, very nice. A barockue female artist, Artemisa Gentilischi also made one very nice painting of this biblical story. You should check it out if you haven't yet.
I hope my version can give you a new perspective on your's.
Pierre

EviLToYLeT- Yeah, like I said I completely forgot about the cape and hair. I plan on fixing that at the soonest. I agree it looks a little flat because of it and will probably look a little better with some attention. Thanks for the comments.
Pierre- Thanks for the kind words once again. You must know that I never mind you painting over any of my stuff. I think your works are always better than mine. I thought of the same giant head as you have but was too late in the process of to redo it (my process that is). I like your stance MUCH more than mine and I find the way he is holding the sword to be better as well. I, as before have copied it to one of my folders to help with perspective for future pic's, perspective being my largest stumbling blocks right now. All of my stuff is head on and I must learn to move around the main elements of the work. Oh well all in time I suppose... I agree with your piece on turning to flat (shading) but I cannot seem to paint as most of you guys do. I suppose I do not know what I am doing and experimentation will be the only way I will ever move out of this.
I will check out some of the works which you mentioned I am interested to know what they have done.
Again thanks for the comments and the inspiring painting...
Thanks
-Phil

Pierre- Thanks for the links. I like all of those paintings. I guess you're right, the headless man has been around a while or the soon to be headless. I especially like the Gentileschi and Caravaggio I don't know why I suppose because of the realism and detail.
Thanks again.
