I'm trying to do a picture involving blood. Not too much of it, but I'm having trouble figuring out how it would look if something horn-like burst from a person's body covered on blood. It wouldn't be on just the end, but I don't really want it covering the_whole_horn.
Suggestions? I'm in great need of them...
thanks in advance

Hmmmm lets see...
You'd be surprised how little blood can be left on an obstacle once passing through the human body, but that doesn't matter, one can always exagerate. What would art be without exageration. Also it depends on whether the obstacle has *just* bursed through or its been prodruding for a decent period of time.
Is the object smooth or coarse, does it have barbs or hooks? (hellraiser). This will determine if meat is caught up or the if its a smooth surface it'll have thin traces of blood pooling at the under side of the object. There be many a factor, explain what your looking for....
I'll really quite normal.......really |

Don't worry. I'm as normal as any artist is... so that's not saying much But hey, I don't judge.
Anyway, it's just burst through. The object is somewhat like a rhinocerous horn but the grooves are deeper and it's thinner. So that's basically it. Thanks

ah, the things you wonder about when you're an artist..
my first image is some kind of membrane-y material kin of surrounding and getting caught on the horn. human beings aren't just blood and meaty stuff.. there's all sorts of other.. yeah. remember that unless the horm were removed, there wouldn't be all that much bleeding going on. think of puncture wounds for example. i'l think there would be more of consistent layer of red all over the horn, except for the tip where blood rubbed off a little just before going through the skin..
whoa, what a way to scare yourself by reading what you just wrote. scary

I once saw the remains of a bird that flew against a flying aircrafts canopy. The odd thing was, that, most of the 20" splat on the windscreen was faint yellow, and only the core was blood.
So add some of this mess coming from the body's intestines too! |

I once (I was 8 or so) helped butchering and preparing a chicken for dinner. First you chop the cicken's head off... After that the chicken walkes around (headless) for a while and out of his neck blood spouts at a very high speed... Considering the size of the chicken you wouldn't expect so much blood.
(Oh, and enjoy the chicken you're having for dinner tonight )

Now there's gonna be a million gory stories, I can just tell.
Silly factoid: the density of blood vessels in the brain and the fact that the circulatory system is fighting gravity produces massive blood pressure (I had the actual figure lying around here somewhere, I think). Remove the head of a relatively calm standing person and it would shoot about 2.5 metres or more into the air (briefly). During some "horseplay", as the teacher called it, when I was a wee nipper a guy I knew clipped his head against a ragged piece of brick sticking out of a wall. The amount of blood that came out! we were sure he was gonna die (being melodramatic kids). But the nurse said it was pretty standard for such an injury.
Anyway, back to the topic. I think it would depend how fast the thing went through and how smooth it is. As it comes out the other side the skin would clean it off, like wiping a blade with a cloth. If it's rougher and creates a more ragged wound it's libel to pick up a little more on the way though. In any case, probably not very much would be on there. |

Keep your eyes open for the pic if you like. It should be done in a couple days, and I'll post it right away.
