Walking around the forum i found thread by Phire2. He asked Craig or someone else to paint Trinity from Matrix using photo as reference. Here is my try...
Phire2 asked for the tips too ...mmm here is da cite:
I'd like to draw a persons face but I just cannot get the concept down in my head on how to start or where to begin. Since real life has no lines I just don't know what to do really..
I planned to make a step-by-step image, but as too often i dislike the first steps cuz they are very crappy to publish. Anyway here is my tips:
first, forgot 'bout comic and other coloring styles. Yes, there is no lines in real life. I started from simple sketch just for checking proportions, placement etc. define basic shapes... this is a quick step. Next i start to paint|render areas and looked at photo from time to time. Values are the key. I work from dark parts to medium. And adds highlights later. Remember, drawing real human heads or full body is a hard subject. I always dislike it tough. But hey doing is a best way to start draw faces.
Sorry guys for brief explain, i'm no Craig or someone else - there are a lot of talented and skillful dudez with BETTER english ;-)
Later,

Nice picture, Leo! I like it. Nice shades and colors. I think that her hands look a bit like man's hands. You could draw them daintier. You got very nice feeling.

Leo great job man!
you really captured the feel
the only thing i would comment on
is, i dunno if the reference photo had it or not, but it would be total bad ass if you
have Trinity's eyes focused directly on the viewer...like directly towards the centre point or whatever...cause that would just add alot of feel to it...
everybody who's seen Matrix knows what part comes next!
wicked job

Wow...I think you got the eyes really good. I noticed in the ref. that she's looking a bit to the upper left corner. That's the kinda stuff that I usually forget when I am struggling with expressions...GREAT JOB!!! |

This is a primo pic Leo. The lighting is so good that I was looking for cues that might have shown it was traced... then I didn't find any.
I really like it! Painter creates such a different picture from Phtoshop. Really, really nice.
It looks like an eviler version of Trinity... that's neat too.
I don't know what it is, but her right hand holding the phone seems to be a bit too much like plastic. And it seems a bit wierd where her hand meets the wrist -- there is a really bright highlight line there. It doesn't match the nice face. |

Nice work, Leo! Nice feeling to it. A couple things that I noticed:
1) The nose looks a little bent to our right.
2) The hand holding the phone looks like a different color than her face and other hand. Looks like a flesh-colored glove or something.
I like the texture a lot. I gotta get me a copy of Painter...

Thank ya all!
In this pic Trinity in trouble escaping from the agents so she dosen't look like marvellous woman at party. If you look at real woman you may noticed that they looks a bit different than those mag cover's girls. Okei argeed with right hand - in original it seems more thin. Pic isn't traced or overpainted i just drop photo reference onto desktop. Yes, colors are vary - the mistakes of young artists is that they just fill human body with 'flesh' color... hmm i saw nice article somewhere at www.elfwood.com related to oilpainting tough but it've some great advices for drawing REAL humans.
Were was a discussion 'bout Painter vs PhotoShop. I use both but seems like Painter have better color picker or wheel (well not better - you just choose colors faster):
also one of the strongest side is a brush controls and colors blending. First time i was very dissapointed by painter (slo-mo monster with hard-to-understand tools etc.) but later i've started to use it more and more. The great painter inspirational sources is art by Jason Manley, Shane Caudle's images (uh Shane, finish your queen Amidala someday
thanks for your time.
cheers,
leo

Farken marvellous. I do think you could soften the nostrils a bit (but I know, C-A. M.'s nose is pretty hard looking compared to most.) The rest has that elusive "I'd swear this was about to move" feel.
Applause from me. |
