Heh...if you can't think of anything to draw then don't draw for a while. Just go about your regular life.eat some cheez wizzes and and just relax. Something will come to you eventually. |

ceenda: the best thing that always works for me and a lot of other artists on here is to draw from life. if you can't think of any ideas, whip out your hand from whatever place it was at and draw that. get your old soldier toys, draw them. anything like that. or color someone else's works, that is also another good idea.
artists block is a common thing. we all get it sometimes.

Haven't painted anything in ages.
It's one of those times where you pick up the Wacom, boot up Photoshop, draw a few scribbles and just sit there... getting frustrated. It's not as if I don't have an image of what it is I want to paint, it's just that once I get started I just go into a big huff.
I'm currently reading a few art books (including one that Ron Lemen recommended) but I'm making slow progress. Plus I've got dissertation stuff, boring coursework etc. to do which just ain't getting done.
What do you guys do if you get into one of these moods (i.e. which lasts for, like, days)?

Coloring comes pretty easy for me, because I can't start out doing basics till I hit my zone. Drawing however... try scribbling junk. Just whatever pops into your head.. as you progress start being more defined. |

i had almost a year or so long phase when i couldn't draw or edit or do anything, i just sat and irced and went to school a few times for a coffee.
music helps. i've actually found out my job stuff can be pretty inspiring sometimes. at least it makes me think of new ideas and ways to do stuff and make stuff look like this and that when i have to do completely opposite of the stuff i'd usually do..

Well, I just spent 20 minutes listening to a little Haujobb with my eyes closed, the idea being to get some ideas. (I'm talking about a coma-like state here. I'm a tad tired.) Worked, too, I now have two pics planned, one of which seems to me to be a better idea better than, well, just about anything I've done so far. The execution, of course, is another thing altogether. We'll see.
