This might sound like a stupid question but lately somesone told me some of my art looked "french". English is not my first language, so maybe this is an english saying?...

Hmm, I seem to have noticed a trend with French artists to make funky cartoony and colorful things. If that's any help... but that's a stereotype in itself, so... |

maybe "that looks french" means it does not look mainstream, what I created was not 'commercial' enough and yes I was quite colourfull... |

Maybe they just meant that your art looks French. And, shouldn't this have gone in the same thread? Why start a complete new one for a question better answered in the old?

hi
french art has a particular feel that is different from english or american.
at least that is the case historically.
they could have clarified by saying something like "your art reminds me of 1930s french art or 19th century french art etc.."
you should be able to tell the diffence between dutch, french, english, american, german, african, chinese, japanese, nordic, all of it.. basically you should be able to look at a piece of art and know where it was made...based on knowing what kind of art happened where and when.
contemporary art has less boundaries than before and that will be harder to do....sometimes.

I said thay my art looked french, not that I am french myself ... (met andere woorden ik snap geen ene ruk van wat jullie daar staan te brabbelen) I only had about 3 years french at highschool and forgot most of it.
'Je peut parler francias only a very petit peut', but of course french is 'ze language ovv lovve'
Ok I let you know
