So, er, em, this picture might not exactly be what you were expecting. No grim reaper, no skeletons, no served heads, just ... well, look and see.

It started out as a basic "sky study", and then it evolved, and evolved, into this. I am aware there are some compositional problems here and there, but if you would care to make a suggestion, please do ...

but otherwise it's ok

whoa i really like that..

the colors and grainishness (jpeg?:P) somehow make it look like film.

also the black specks rule :)

Very pretty lighting, but the sketchy looking mountain takes away from the pic.

About the big wave, After i red his reply i saw what he mean, the white around the mountain make it look like a huge water wave..
But when I frist looked at it, it was a moutain, not a wave. Personaly I think the way you did the light around the montain is ok, dont change it.
The only thing that look weird to me are the black "dot/marks"(old movie like the other said.)

afterall: it good

The Biblical burning Tree?.. oh wait, that was a bush.. Either way, i like the overall feeling of the piece, although it is a bit surreal and I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to make of it... and nice clouds

Nice pic, transcendent.

I agree with what sear said about the wave, cuz it kinda does look like that. Although I think that could be fixed easily enough.

The colours are great, and the tree's awsome.

i agree with Anthony; sorta looks like a picture from a med-low digital camera. perhaps you could blend the colors in together a little more.

anyhow, interesting art you've made, trans!!

Hey i think the image is quite powerful.. Good job! It's very simple in design, but it makes the impact very direct =)

My only complaint is that the mountain lacks structure, and there is too much negative space at the top. Consider cropping about an inch from the top.

But keep the specs, I think it adds motion

Thank you

To explain myself, the "specs" on the picture are not film grain, they are actually leaves, floating in the air, blown towards the camera by a strong, cold gusty wind ... off a dead tree, of course.

Eetu : I have no idea where the graininess came from ... I didn't think it was that obvious, though.

Gecko : Absolutely. Less sketchy mountain ... I'll work on it.

Anthony : I the black dots above

Spectra : I finally see what you mean about the mountain being a huge wave, it's almost symmetrical, and there are no "complimenting" mountains, easy correction, though. I've explained the black specs above too.

Napalm : It can't be the burning bush, because it isn't burning (lol !) and the biblical burning tree was alive, there's nothing special about a dead burning tree, is there ? Interesting thought, though. It did occur to me when I was painting this scene. I didn't think anyone would bring it up, thought.

Silico : Yup, the grain was unintentional ... when you say "blend the colors", do you mean the red in the sunset didn't bleed into the mountain ? Okay, I'll take that down.

Nightime : I'll be brushing up the mountain ... since so many of you have brought it up.

ohhhh...I likes. Very good job. I think what gives the "wavE" effect, asides from the lighting, is the mountains shading..everything is pointing into the center like water being directed. I hardly ever do mountains, so that could be my inexperience being babbled..but I think that also plays a role in the "wave"

Couple of comments--

Methinks when you did the crop, you actually took TOO much off of the top and bottom. The picture loses some of the impact I think, you only needed to take off maybe 3/4-1 inch (that's at 768x1024 monitor resolution).

About the wave thing, I noticed that too, but I actually like the effect. The wave feeling gives the mountain a sort of upward motion, drawing your eye up from the bottom of the picture to just stall at the tree in the middle before flowing out into the sky above. It gives the whole picture a feeling of frozen power, sort of like those Japanese pictures of waves and mountains.

Very poetic, ain't it? =)

I fuckin love it...

Its just such a cool theme.

My suggestion would be too make those leaves noticeable... or better yet, Make more leaves, get dramatic have them following a gust of wind, show the leaves being blown towards the camera, dont be afraid to throw a big ass leave nice and close up to the camera with a motion effect on it, i think it would look sweet. Because the clouds kind of look like a storm is brewing or something, maybe some leaves being blown towards the camera or off to the side of the camera would put a little story into it. (camera being the view) umm... yea... anyways i love it either way! cant wait to see more stuff from you!
