Hey, people!

I took a pencil and drew this picture on color paper. It's a self-portrait but my reference photo was siz years old. I would like to hear some feedback. So what do you think about shading and things? Thanks.

Hey i think its great, it is definitely looking like the picture, and i think the shading is nice, and the colored paper is a nice touch. Maybe there should be more contrast in the overall pic or it is just your scanner maybe, i dont know, i am myself a beginner in this sort of pencil "realistic" art. I used to draw quick sketches and comic things, but before this year i did never draw anything "realistic", i posted my first attempd at still life in this thread, http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006686.html if you have any comment

Great rendering. Just one suggestion, maybe think about using some white charcoal or something to that effect for the highlights? Might think about darkening your darkest darks slightly too, if you'd like. :P
Also, don't forget about the shadow underneath your chin. Looking good though!

Mime: Thank you. Yeah... I see same contrast problem.. a bit yes. I think this looks much better on paper and "live". I have had problems with the options of the scanner I've used. Everything look seamless and unbroken on paper too. OH.. and I tried your link but seems like it doesn't work at all.

Aius_Lytebringer: Thanks. Yes.. I think that your suggestion makes some sense. Yes. I have tried to do things that way too - white charcoal gives a nice effect. Perhaps I give it a try.. :I

toast!:Thanks for you too. Hmm.. I think that the biggest reason why this looks better is invested time. This took about an hour. Others have been quickies.. Yeah... dunno what to do to the contrast. The scanner sucks a bit.

Any other suggestions to improve? Please, tell me. Thanks.

That's a really nice work, it's almost perfect under my opinion, one only thing i would suggest, you should cintrast more the sides of the face letting show the real dimensions of the face (my english is ugly), under my opinion the drawing is a little more large than the original... please let me know...

Thanks Geck! ...I would like to hear more analyses from you.. too.

Hmm... I played with PS and fix the contrast a bit. Now it looks more the way on the paper.

Looks very nice. In addition to what is said above I suggest you add a little stronger shadows to the right corner of the mouth, right side of the nose and to the righ cheek.

Thanks you, Rhomb! I agree with you about stronger shadows on my picture and I think that they are dark enough on my original work on paper. I don't know how to get better scans tho. It could help to give you the real impressions of things on this. Thanks tho.

You lost a bit of that smile in the edge of your mouth and the upper eyelids have more contrast in the photo IMO. But thats only nitpicking (this the right word?). Apart from that it's fantastic, i wish I could do it as good.

Hi, Jenn! Give a shot if ya want to... Yep. On that picture I was 12 or 13... dunno. About six years ago. Old sweet times.

Thank you!

Well... I wanted to dig this older topic to the daylight because I'd like to hear Fred Flick Stone's/Spooge demon's crits about this piece... so if you dudes hear me, could you give some feedback? Thank you.

I hope I get it though I appreciate comments from others, too.

Well, umm.. I keep comparing the photo and the drawing, but can't really find anything that'd need to be corrected.

Ok let's be picky: On the contrast fixed version your lips and eye brows go too dark, but the rest looks better.
Happy now? :] It's great. Now go draw Jenn.
