Never in there did I say Frost was wrong, I was just stating that Witchlord, I believe went somewhat too deep in the science and almost math to explain things to "Artists".
He, as 3d Graphics programmer, needs to know those things, since he works on the coding that will generate a reality.
It is good that Frost post these threads, I like it very much.

I agree with you completely. Although I'm not sure your explanation would have been any better to the original question.
Yes, I probably did go about it the wrong way when trying to explain it. But this is the way I think, most likely because of my computer science background. I have no artistic background what so ever.
I would like to apologize to anyone that feels it necessary for my confusing explanation
One of these days, when I have the time I'm going to take up art classes to learn to see everything from an artist point of view (well, to learn how to draw and paint properly too of course)
Oh, and I live in Lund, Skne.

Witchlord,
I saw your pic of your girlfriend, it is nice and enough to call yourself an artist.
I have also some background of 3d math, but i have noticed that it does not help me that much when I am about to paint an idea. Sure it helps me, but in a total different way.
Just what I think. |

Thanks again WitchLord. =)
And yes, Pierre is of course right. There is no absolutes in this world, nothing is pure. But for the sake of explanations, it's often better to give ideas as pure to have an understanding, then once understood, take into account that impurities exist, which causes these rules to bend in a slight manner. Thanks Pierre for pointing that out. =))
In any case, I learned from this thread, and I hope those that have read it understood a bit more of reflections (without necessarily the photon talk). =) |

People are knocking witchlord for his scientific photon talk, but he is the only guy I understand!!! |

wow..first time I have had use for my chemistry-lessons =)
dicionary:
right=the ones reflected
wrong= the ones absorbed
well I can understand everything about how the light is emitted again, but why does it only absorb the "wrong"-sort of photons?
Why does the energi from the "right"-photons go to the electrons? Why arent they absorbed as heat as the "wrong" ones?
I know am putting heat-energi to the whole thing, but I thought it could be good to know where the photons energi is going that is absorbed.
Well have fun now explaining =)
Sorry frost for turning this thing even more into a science class.

I believe that I've already answered your question in ICQ but I'll answer it here to for the rest of the guys who are afraid to ask
Actually, all photons are absorbed, there's no difference what color they are. Once they are past the surface of the material and collides with the atoms they are absorbed and the electrons jumps to a higher level corresponding to the energy of the photon. Because electrons can only exist at discreet levels the remaining energy from the photon are released as heat or converted into kinetic energy (movement). Once the electron jumps back to its normal level another photon is released with energy corresponding to the level of the electron. This is always less than or equal to the energy of the incoming photon.
I hope this clears things up, and doesn't confuse the situation even more
