it's quite some time since i posted anything.
so here is a tree study i've been doing for art classes at school.
The tree was done completely with the paintbrush and background w/ airbrush.
any constructive criticism is welcome

I should think a little contrast on the lower limb (furthest), around the trunk and on the bark would not go amiss.
You could also change the base of the tree (it looks a little like it has been placed infront of the ground rather than in it). You could have some of the grass on front of it and hide the sketch line. If you really want to you could even experiment with the light a little, add shadows from the trunk (the existing one seems to be in the wrong place and too light), and from the upper limbs, so that you get a more 3d effect.
Most of these are already there but if I were you I would strengthen them and give it a bit of contrast and presence. Other than that it is good as it is - just improve to your own preferance!

Thanks for your critics.
The sketch lines were on a separate layer so I had no dificulty in removing them.
btw budoka, the base of the tree w/ roots and such stuff is not visible because there's a small hill of snow in front of it which I changed in the 2nd version of the pic.
I added more shading to the tree and a sketchy shadow-cast for now.
Sage: I like your idea w/ the footprints. Thats the next i'll do then
Everything beside the tree was only very roughly painted, b/c my task was to draw a tree without anything else...
.. but I guess I had too much fun and couldn't stop to add a background thingy and some other things like the grass.
oh yeah, btw here's the newer version:
