I posted a link to the show "Bad Vlad" that we did. The download is big, so here's some screenshots for those who don't want to download the cartoon.

Hey Alias! You guys did a good job on it, had a watch earlier on.
The princess is very nice indeed. Any chance of seeing flesh in the next episode? =) (kidding). |

Alias..very nice man believe me I can appreciate your hartd work. I am also animating an entire cartoon in flash as well as many hundred of smaller animations for my website. It is very time consuming. I would love to talk with you and maybe get some tips into technique....maybe you have found some short cuts....that is deffinatly the best flash cell style animation that I have seen. I am going to go check out vlad...I hope we can get in touch!

I must have missed the link to the animation! Where is it???
I LOVE animation, and the screens look great!
I'd be happy to offer any feedback, too, once I see it.

WOW! VERY COOL stuff.
Vlad's a stud. I wouldn't change a thing. Well, one, maybe it's just my monitor settings, but it is very dark (brightness, not evil-ness) , even for a "dark" cartoon. I didn't turn up the brightness because I was too curious about the show, but that's the only constructive crit I have.
Excellent work!!!

Hey Milkman,
The Moser Brothers have a forum of their own that deals more specifically with animation, and they always answer questions with helpful information. Maybe go there and post your questions. You might find the answers you need, because there have been a few Flash questions already dealt with.

GC, is there an echo in here? Hahahah.
Seriously, thanks for posting the link.
Frost, thanks, bro. Actually, there is flesh in episode 2, but it's a different chick.
Milkman, god bless you. We obviously love hearing that kind of comment. It's funny how often this work can get compared to Flash animation like "Radiskull." It can be unnerving. Sure, we'd be happen to answer any questions you have, either here or in our own forum.
Here's the whole deal with Flash, from our viewpoint. At first, we were trying to do fuller, more Disney-esque animation. After getting our arse handed to us a couple times, we decided that the Disney ethic doesn't really work for extremely limited animation, like we are doing. So we turned our attention more toward Anime and others like Spumco. The Japanese have a rich history of limited animation, and they deal with it very well.
The focus now is on layouts and poses. We're trying to get better with expressions and whatnot. There are no shortcuts, other than the fact that vector graphics are resolution independent. Plus, the characters can be "bounced", or scaled up or down for a frame, to give a little more illusion of movement.
The other thing, as we are getting used to this medium, is to listen to every scrap of criticism. There's a temptation for lots of people to go "no, I'm Mr. Bad Ass Artist. I'll do it my way." But if someone mentions that a movement or shot looks weird, then it's worth taking note. We strive to constantly improve at all aspects of what we do and work day and night at it. I think there will be a strong surge in limited animation in the near future, as the web allows for small crews like ours to tell complete stories to mass audiences. It's pretty exciting.
That's pretty much it. If you have any other questions, then please fire away. |

GTech, Thanks. Yes, it's very dark. They wanted it that way, but I think I overdid it in the backgrounds and colors. Doh. Thanks for your feedback! Into the mental file it goes! |
