I'm not the best, but I might have some ideas. The shadowing on the rock is flat due to the lighting. Your light source is way-far out there. The shadow on the rock should almost take over the whole rock I think. Just have a little bit of the left side be lite up.
The mushroom closest to us would prolly have almost the same type of shadowing and the tree closest to us as well.
The lighting on the tree is a bit to bright, I feel. Try and match the tones from the sky area by the tree to the leaves more. Being that orange/purple color you have going on.
I really like the sky you have done, very well laid out to my eyes. Keep on it! |

realism.. start with simple forms like cylinders, cubes and stuff to get your basic lighting right (kinda like doing extreme low-poly rendering). When your basic values are working properly, adding detail is easy.
And for the tree, I'd suggest to check out some trees out there in the nature and watching how the branches fold out and how the masses of leaves work together, squinting your eyes to bring out the big blotches of shape and color.. photos work as well, but they don't have the same 3d quality :P
Oh and the tree, rocks and the mushroom closer to the viewpoint are using a different lightsource from the rest of the trees and 'shrooms. They should also have only rim lighting with a shadow on the front. |
