It started out as a black & white scribble in Photoshop, where I then blew up the pic a 1000 pixels or so and started refining..
I'm not too happy about it, I'm really bad at doing details and such. Making things look big etc. I used some reference for the clouds.
Also I'm not sure with the 2 other cities in the back, they were mainly added to fill the empty space I know it doesnt look too much like the "real" bespin cloud city, since I didn't use any reference for it. Anyways comments and such, is welcome.
edit: Sorry for the big download

It looks really great!
What Im missing is mostly some thing "closer" from the viewers angle. Maybe some of the reddish spaceships that are in the movies in of the corners?
Snygg bild iaf. Frresten vet du vilket grafik program man br/skall vlja om man e ny p digital bildbehandling? Ska man brja med corel draw, Photoshop eller Painter? |

Hi Binke!
looks cool! a bit ceenda'ish in style (I guess its the colors and clouds)
maybe you could paint the clouds to the horizon the perspective suggests the horizon line to be visible and it would fill up some space.

Muchos stylish Binke...
very cool and...nice...only two synonyms? I'm losing my perspicacity!
Aaaaaaaargggghhh!

P.S. Perhaps to add scale a large and rather annoyed wookie could be pissing into the wind off the edge of one of the platforms. I feel it would add a certain post-modern-renaissance-realist touch. Maybe. |

Ah thanks for the quick replies!
Isric: Thanks alot! And btw I liked your legolas pic!
Returner: Thanks, and yes thats a good idea, a red spaceship..mmm red.. its exactly what it needs. ill see if i get some time over to paint it.
Nex: Thanks, hm .. thats a good suggestion, ill look into it.
Haarg2: You are my hero, you do know that?

I tried changing the composition according to Liquids advice.. I dunno it looks better alright, I'm not too keen about the spaceship though, a total failure of the cloud car Ah well lets call it the hunka chunk car. Anyways does it look better? worse?

Definitely better. The new compostion is stronger, the detail more interesting and the ship adds a little life / movement to the piece.
However, with that big sun top right I think that the 2nd city (bottom left) is lit from the wrong side. And possible the 3rd as well.
Also can you extend the sea of cloud so that it appears to go on 'forever'. In the film the clouds do seem to strech to the horizon, not as a single sheet, but broken into bars and clumps of different densities. Indeed the Falcon does a U Turn around one such coloud bank when returning for Luke.

Looks nice binke!
How about adding some subtle color variations (e.g. some colder areas here and there) and more depth into the atmosphere. It can, and is, very interesting in a pretty much flat color, but how about, as ampe was saying, give more depth by rendering clouds into the backround. Could be done with very subtle changes.

I really like but, have you thought about adding a space ship next to the viewer? Doing a looping or something...
Just wondering

really cool composition, i love the lights.
I personally think the light should be a lot stronger 'cause you looking right at the sun. Or you could put some clouds around to break the light.
Anywayz, cool composition

Nice job on this one, I think you did a really great job on the colors and the clouds. I would change your 'composition' though. It's perfectly symmetrical with your 'main focus' dead center, and the other two cities the exact same size.
I just realized that the space ship should have been placed lower... anyhoo I think you get the idea.
Hope this is useful.

Wow, I'm a big fan of pictures like this ... Great work ! I'd like to see the clouds stretch all the way to the horizon, though ... The composition seems weird (though better) in your second picture.

Yes! This is very useful. Heh actually my composition was kind of similar to that one in the beginning, but I had only made one city, and so I didnt really think I was going to make some more..so I cropped it, and made it sit in the center.. bad planning
anyways, this is great, thanks!

Damn I slept for too long, now I've missed two classes already. Oh well.
Cos: That's a flattering threat
Simon: Thanks, and you too!
The MilkMan: Hm what do you mean with small details?
Ampa: Ah yes, I will extend the clouds when I come back from school thanks.
Pierre: Thank you! hm yes I thought about that and I tried it out, didnt work out too well, but ill give it another try later.
AcidDrone: Thanks alot, it's good to hear that I'm improving
Tweek, Transcendent: Mucho Gracias, I'm not sure about the light being stronger since that would kinda ruin the mood I think.

Yeah, nice touch Binke... and really nice color choice. There are a few problems imho - from Liquid's point we'll see dark side of platforms with a few light strokes and nice sun halo... the next one is a horizon line and atmosphere - usually it adds some depth into image - try to put some more clouds with another values onto background. More 'bout depth - values are vary depending on the distance from camera.
I've done crappy repaint (sorry) to show what i mean. I change the color sheme and the 'mood' ...uh don't remember how those platforms and hovers look like...

Thanks for the tips Leo
ah I like the color variation you added. I get what you mean.
Alright, seems like everyone is pointing out the cloud problem, so ill fix that
I'll post the update later
and your cloudcar really looks like the one in the movies.

Hey man nice repaint..I think you best illustrated the true setting of bespine. I like the motion blur on the sky car also. Those clouds whipping up into the atmosphere was a nice touch...good work |

Argh! The problem with this forum is that it's so huge thesedays I end up missing posts like this!
Great pic Binke! My kinda picture.
Try doing some cloud studies. The problem with using blend is that the overall effect tends to be a bit 2D. No crits for the buildings though.
Great stuff! |

ceenda: Ahh the cloudmaster! Thanks man, yes I need to study painting clouds, its damn hard! heh, they keep looking either too hard or too soft.
nori: Yay! heh thanks.
This will probably be my last update, since I am damn tired on the pic now. Resized it down a bit, for faster load..
