I have just downloaded a bunch of poser stuff from Greylight [http://www.greylight.com/poser.html] and most of them are in .cr2 and .rsr formats, I have tried to get them working (by putting them in the suggested runtime folders) and I am sure I have done all of this correctly - however with my limited knowledge of the program, (coupled with a minor hatred for anything that doesn't go right the first time round) I am still unable to get the little thumbnail of the characters up on my library palette - what the hell am I doing wrong?!?!?
(Is this a PC thing, so I have no chance of doing it on my Mac or what?)

---------------------------------------------

Hey,
I found out how to do this myself, so forget it. If you need an explanation look up MacConverter @ http://www.poserforum.net.

Poser is a very limited program. It's fun at first but as I said limited. My sugestion is to forget poser and start working with a real 3D program.

Yeah, I get your point. I got poser cheap in a sofware bundle. Anyhow I only ever use it for proportional reference, never use it in my final images.
As it is so cheap and near enough an accurate program for the pupose mentioned above I would even go so far as to recomend it - anyway true 3D art is a big waste of time and requires technical knowledge over artistic skill - not what I am interested in.

Budoka: RECOMEND IT!!! Its a great visual tool for JUST the points you recomended. Visual refrence of proportions and perspective. Even for "not normal" perspectives. Its a great tool to learn the human anatomy.

How can you say that 3d doesn't require artistic skill? Have you ever tried to model a realistic figure? It takes knowledge of Form and Anatomy from every angle!
Anyway if you need a quick reference for a painting look in the mirror or just ask a friend to pose I think you will get better results than using Poser.

Budoka:

Get a clue.

Edit: this statement is in response to Budoka's assertion that 3D is more about technicality than artistic expression.

Take a look at Balistic's work, and tell me there isn't any artistic talent there. The technical knowledge of 3-d comes with using it, as does with any other medium. But if you ask Shadowman or Balistic or any other 3-D artist on this forum, it's the ones who posess an artistic background who stand out from the crowd. Don't limit yourself with an incorrect attitude from the start. From the people I have spoken with and the countless articles I have read regarding 3-dimensional imagery. The common theme amongst them all are, companies look for potential hirees with an artistic ability, because the technical can be taught.

Hey, what was that, a clue ran by.

Miconius, you're new the forum so I'll resist the temptation to really lay into you . . . but seriously dawg, you have five posts under your belt and at least three of them have been making light of someone's tool preference.

Am I a Poser fan? Hardly. But if it works for someone, great.

Your "acrylics are crap" rant was more than a little off-axis too.

To put it another way: When arriving at a party, its generally best to avoid belching in the faces of fellow guests.

FWIW, there's a typo in your profile (unless there really is a Glen Ridga in Jersey).

balistic you should keep yer spurs from gingling and gangling!!
Art is not about what others think about what you do! It's all about what you think and feel about your own work!!! Lot's of people criticize me and my work!! but do you think that makes me feel any less for what I do?!?
Hell NO!!!!
If I disgusted or pissed someone off I must've done something right!!!
Well, all I will say is this! If it works for you and you like it, why should you give a DAMN what I think!!!
After all, my comments are making light of what you dig! (or maybe don't dig!)
But, remember this...
Life is a fragile thing!
One minute yer munching on a burger
The next minute yer dead meat!!!

Hi.
Sorry if any you people took offence, all I said was just meant to provoke a reaction with shadowman- do I care what you use to get your figures right? - Not likely!
I don't really ever use poser in my work - just for the occasional late night 'how many eyes do people have again???' reference.

Cheers all and thanks for even bothering to respond to my regrettable post; )

P.S.
[anyway true 3D art is a big waste of time and requires technical knowledge over artistic skill - not what I am interested in. - RETRACTED WITH HUMBLE APOLOGIES]

Great work Ballistic.
