Nice painting indeed. As a bookcover I dont know, maybe should have a clearer focus in some way, something that draws attention.

It is so that the picture is covering the whole book. The right side is the front and the left is the back.

Whats the story about?? What is the figure on the left looking at? I like the pose on the left much more than the one on the right, as it looks much too static. His left arm looks quite strange as well...

Looks cool. I especially like the weeds and stuff in the marsh - you did an excellent job. The characters look pretty good too, but they don't seem to tie in to the scene quite as well as they could. I think it's 'cause of two things... first, they have much more contrast than anything around them, so they look like they're not really in the fog. Second, the colors of the lighting on them doesn't quite match the scene. Judging by the background, you'd probably have a lot of purple ambient light in the scene, which would make the shadows on the characters more heavily tinted in that direction. They also have a sort of pasty look to their skin... kinda like the living dead, but I think adding some more color might help.

Hope this helps. A lot of my comments are subjective, but it never hurts to get a second point of view, right?

Great cover - there are two things I would comment on:

1. Neither of the two characters are looking at the 'reader', or even at each other, thus I don't think the cover succeeds in drawing you into their world.

2. The coloring on the characters doesn't seem to 'gel' with the surroundings that they are in. I think the lighting, key/reflective, should be more in sync with the entire piece.

Hope that helps...

I love your style of coloring. Very "storybookish", and has a great Tolkien feeling to it.

My humble criticism is that since you said it would be a book cover, I think it would be more dramatic if something more was going on in the picture. One of the main rules in illustration is that every image should tell a story, situation, etc. to add drama and life to the image. Unlike conceptual art and profile images, illustrations are best when something is going on. The simplest example of this would be characters facing an enemy in a setting. To add depth, you play around with gestures, poses, facial expressions, and anything else you can think of that would further develop a "story" to the scene. Having a "story" to a scene gives it many times more viewer interest and depth. Hope this opinion helps

Of course, a good thing would be to go to a library or bookstore and just browse at all the painted book covers in the fantasy novel section..

Hi Krass,

great picture, I really like the landscape and the overall feel of the picture. Nice poses but I have to agree with the other guys, look more into telling a story with your cover.
I like a lot the poses of the girl and the nice design-idea of her backpack. She is looking with big staring eyes at something but wy is the boy looking at her?
The color of the faces makes them look a little sick locking.

But there is defenately a youthbook feeling in the cover.

Great work krass.

/cheers

Grass and foreground stuff looks great! Nice figures, too, although I'd agree with others about making the poses more dynamic or engaging. The purples trees (?) in the background seem a little flat - maybe you could increase their dimensionality somewhat.

Thanks Guys!
Thats been really helpfull for me.
I agree thet the bigast problem for me is the storry telling, and beleve me I try hard.
My client told me esterday that they like the work, but I think I will work a bit more
on it first. Natec asked me about the story:
The kids (teens) are going in midsommernight (early mirning) tru a bog.
The left one is knoing the way and is knowing wat he is going for. The right one is just going with him and is very afrayd because of the bog. I know this is maybe not telling much for the book, but the client wonted a cover that is not revealing much of the storry.
About the lights and the fog in the picture I agree to, and I will work on it before I send the painting.
Once again thank you!!!

Nice picture indeed...
The first things that struck me was that they didn't look like hobbits. But that may be irrellevant.
The background is a bit blurred, but maby Im just ranting about things that you already have taken into account..Liked the feel of it though..

Cheers,
Frank

Nice picture, but because it's a book cover I think you should add the title and then post it here, because I don't think It's fully finished right now.

Two young boys lone in a field and the one on the right is staring at the one at the left
Know the one on the left has a pretty shocked look on his face.
I wonder what the one on the right has just said.
