hey, I really like the sky/mountains background.. only crit on it is that some of the closer mountains could use a bit more depth worked into em. But as a whole, you've established a lot of depth between the mountains, good job. The background looks more like a wall size painting, instead of a window or whatever it is..
I like the lighting and reflection effects you have going along the floor in front of the pillar. But I have a couple crits on the chick. First of all.. her right leg is really long, might wanna work on that a bit, her left foot is also a bit strange. Her left shoulder armor piece doesn't quite look like its actually on her shoulder either..
Overall I like this though, you've got a great oil look going in the clouds.

probably looks like a painting in the back because there is no light coming from it |

You wanted critics, here goes:
She looks very nice already (the proportions, face and all), and the background is good too.
However, the problem is not the parts of the equation, it is the result. Now, you have reached 1+1=0.8, whereas you could have 1+1=1.2 :-)
That means, that the combination of these two would need some work, imho. First of all, the composition is very much on the right. The pillar and girl maybe should be on different sides of the pic. Usually the character looks better when she is "towards" the picture, not "away" (like in here). As you mentioned, you liked the background... maybe you fell (too much) in love that you did not like to cover it wih anything? :-) Maybe you should...
Also, it does not look so good, when you have a painted look in everything, but the contours of the building structures are sharp as razor. Maybe some touch up with finger painting or something would be in order to make these worlds meet (similar look to these contours than it is in the area where the pillar meets the floor). Perhaps also making the floor contour a little tilted by perspective might be good, so that the "picture look" that Striker and mOO mentioned would also be tuned down.
As I said, very good going already... please carry on just a little more. It is almost there...

I like your picture. A little too dark though. Too much variation between shadows and highlights.
I added a few suggestions to your image.
(To use all the black areas).
Hope you don't mind.

very very cooll nice drawing style. I love the background. Just one thought..
I think this makes it look reallly cool but did you notice that the length of her legs from her waist to her KNEES is the length of a normal person's legs? just wondering..
great job.

thanks for all the great feedback guys... you were right owl, about me not wanting to cover up the background btw, when u say that the pillar and the girl should be on the other side, do u mean i should flip the pic horizontally or the camera angle should move more to the right? btw, thanks again for the constructive crits. |
