First off, let me say hello. Discover this forum a few days ago, and already totally engrossed. I am sure that I shall learn a lot from the people here.
Any one who reads my user profile will see that I am pretty heavily involved with theatre (and to a lesser degree film). So I thought that for my first post I'd show you a design I've just done for a pantomime I am in this New Year.
The objective was to promote the show as bright, colourful and exciting - whilst also getting all the required info onto the poster.
This is the convoluted method I used to make the image. 1st I did some initial character sketches on paper and then scanned them at a low res. I then traced the images in Corel Xara to get vector versions of the characters. I could then play with the layout, resizing as neccessary before exporting into Photoshop, where I applied the colour and shading. Finally I overlayed the text.
I doubt I shall do any serious rejigging to the design - but any comments and critisism is welcomed.

Pretty good. Very eye-catching. The layout is pretty good too. Your anatomy could use a little work, and some of your characters are a bit lop-sided (most noticably, the girl's sleeves... I don't know if that was intentional, but it looks more like a mistake to me, and chances are a lot of people will see it that way. If they notice it. Which a lot of people probably won't.) Pretty cool though. I like the way the gorilla is checkin' out the mermaid in the bathtub. |
